CHAPTER TEN:
THE RULES

HER FINGERS RAN OVER the piano keys. Estella never wanted to learn how to play an instrument unlike her sister, but when Luna was out of her life for four years, learning how to play an instrument was the only thing that Estella felt would bring her closer to Luna. So, as Estella was exploring the house, she came across the piano.

She sat down on the stool, looking at the white and black keys with calculating eyes before her fingers took off without her permission. They played swiftly and gently and so beautifully. It was the first song that Estella had ever learned to play. It was a beautiful song that although usually a part in it had an instrument besides piano, Estella still enjoyed it.

It was called Fall For You by Secondhand Serenade. Estella had always loved the song and thought it was absolutely beautiful. She played it on the piano, softly singing the lyrics to herself.

"The best thing 'bout tonight's that we're not fighting. Could it be that we have been this way before? I know you don't think that I am trying. I know you're wearing thin down to the core." She hadn't noticed when Luna had made her way down the steps, watching her sister play the song. "But hold your breath because-"

"Tonight will be the night that I will fall for you over again, don't make me change my mind." Luna joined in. "Or I won't live to see another day, I swear it's true. Because a girl like you is impossible to find. You're impossible to find."

Luna smiled softly at her sibling. "Since when did you play?"

Estella removed her hands from the keys as she turned her head to look at Luna. "After you left, I taught myself. Made it feel like you were still there, y'know?" Estella's voice was gentle as she spoke, it made Luna smile.

"You know I'll make it up to you." Luna said, walking closer to her. Estella stood up as she nodded her head.

"You always do." Estella mused. "Anyways, what's up?"

"I have to ask you something and you're not allowed to get annoyed with me." Luna states. Estella crosses her arms over her chest as she cocks an eyebrow, silently telling Luna to continue. "Are you planning to stay?"

Estella pulled her bottom lip between her teeth before nodding slightly. "If you'll have me. Or rather, if they'll let me."

"You were a bitch when you first came in." Luna points out. Estella rolls her eyes. "Hey, I've always told you that first impressions are always most important."

"There's a reason why I don't meet new people." Estella told her.

"There's also a reason why you don't have friends." Luna retorted. Estella scoffed and Luna snickered. "You know, if you stay you're going to have to change your diet."

Estella's face scrunched up in disgust. "But animal blood taste so bad. What if, instead of killing innocents, I drink from blood bags. Problem solved."

Luna cringed at the mention of blood bags and shook her head. "I went on that diet once. I'd rather you not to do the same thing."

"There's a story behind that that I'm intrigued to hear about." Estella said with an excited smile. Luna gave her an unamused look. Estella held her hands up in defeat. "Fine. No back story. Anyways, let's hear it. What do I gotta do to stay with you?"

"You have to change your diet. We don't have rules except for two. You cannot feed off humans, which of course means you cannot kill them. And you have to stay on our side of the town." Luna explained.

"Our side?"

"Like I told you before, we have a treaty with the wolves. We have rules with them. We can't kill or turn anyone in the town. We can't cross their borders. And we can't tell of their species just like they can't tell of ours." Luna explained. Estella nodded her head. "And, because I know you, you can't piss them off just because you want to, because they'll kill you."

"Of course, you wouldn't let that happen though right?" Estella says with a smile.

"Depends on if you deserve it or not." Luna shrugged. Estella gasped, slapping a hand to heart.

"Luna!" She said with mock offense. Luna smirked at her and shook her head.

"Love you sis." Luna said with a smile.

"Mhm."

"Disgusting. Absolutely disgusting." Estella complained as she and Luna came back from Estella's first hunting trip. Her face was scrunched up in disgust as she entered the home.

"Someone seems to not like the diet." Emmett mused from his place on the couch. He and Jasper had been playing video games before they heard the girl's walk in and decided to pause. Estella looked at him, her face still one of disgust. Emmett let out a loud laugh.

"If I go back now, I can save myself from this torture." Estella mumbled to herself. Luna went into a fit of giggles at her sisters remark.

"Like you would ever go back to live with August."

"I'm convinced she's the actual devil." Estella pointed out. Luna smiled as she shook her head at her younger sibling. Jasper stood up from his spot on the couch and walked over to Luna. Luna smile up at him.

"Hey, Jazz." She greeted.

"Darlin'." He greeted, leaning down to give her a kiss. When the couple moved away from the affection, Jasper glanced at Estella. "If you don't mind, I'd like to steal my wife for a little while."

Estella smirked at the two. "I don't mind at all. Have fun." Estella sent her sister a wink and Luna's face scrunched up at the action. Estella laughed as the two walked away, heading up the stairs and into Jasper's bedroom. Estella walked over to the couch where Emmett was still sitting. She jumped over the back of it, landing beside of the boy. "Mind if I play?"

"You play video games?" Emmett asked with surprise. Estella smirked as she nodded.

"Hell yeah."

"I like you already." Emmett said with an excited smile. Estella let out a small laugh.

"Makes you feel any better, I like you as well. You're very. . . energetic, I think is the word I'm looking for." Estella mused. "Just be prepared when I kick your ass."

Emmett smirked. "You're so on." And with that, the two got to playing their game. From afar, Alice was watching the two with a sad smile on her face. If only Estella liked her, maybe she could finally be happy. When she met her mate, this wasn't what she had in mind. She was hurt, but that was okay. It would get better. All she needed was time. All they both needed was time; something they both had forever of.
