A couple of days passed, and we were at work, I was reading a book when he walked in my office holding a file. I thought it was a case, but he opened it and spread out about 6 different pictures of cribs across my desk.

Malcolm: Which one?

Celine: Malcolm, you realize I've never been to your house right?

Malcolm: Good point

He regathered the pictures and put them back in the file and walked out. He came back about 10 minutes later and grabbed my hands.

Celine: What're you doing?

Malcolm: Let's go

He gently pulled me to my feet, and I followed behind him all the way to his penthouse.

Celine: So, your mom owns the building?

Malcolm: Yea

I looked around and my eyes landed on the trophy case full of knives and other things. I pointed at it and turned around looking at him, he gave me a nervous smile.

Celine: Quite the collection

Malcolm: I was gonna get some locks for those, come with me

He led me to a decently sized, empty room. It had a lot of potential for it, and I turned to look at Malcolm.

Celine: This is the baby's room?

Malcolm: Yea...what do you think?

Celine: Well we definitely have to child proof this place, but I like it and I think the baby will love it. I'll take that file now

He smiles and we exited the room and I sat down at his kitchen counter. He handed me the file and I spread out the pictures of the cribs, reading the descriptions of each.

Celine: Which one do you like?

He reached over pointing to the 3rd one and I nodded in agreement, looking back up at him.

Celine: I like that one too

I ended up spending hours over there before I decided I should go before it gets dark. I decided to stop and buy myself some tea and after getting it I noticed Ainsley sitting at a table, she was looking directly at me. She waved me over and I walked over, sitting in front of her.

Ainsley: I thought that was you

Celine: Just getting some tea

Ainsley: Where you coming from?

Celine: I was with your brother; we were picking out a crib

Ainsley: This is all so crazy to me you know? My brother becoming a dad, my mom a grandma, me an auntie

Celine: I bet

Ainsley: How'd this happen Celine?

Celine: Gil brought him in for a case, we solved it together, he wanted to go celebrate, and we both had a little too much to drink. I woke up the next morning to a note, didn't think I'd ever see him again

Ainsley: Life is funny like that. Listen I want to get to know you better, you seem like a genuine person and well-you're having my niece

Celine: Oh, we don't know the gender-

Ainsley: I figured but I'm kind of hoping for a girl. Here's my number, please don't hesitate to call

Celine: Thanks

I smiled to myself as she walked off. It reminded me of a quote out of a book I'd read the other day.

'Small steps in the right direction can turn out to be the biggest step of your life' well lately I felt like I'd been taking a lot of small steps in the right direction, and it seemed like they were starting to pay off.
