4 ½ Months Pregnant

I was walking through the park and when I heard the steady sound of jogging feet approaching, I knew Malcolm was close. He stopped as soon as he caught back up with me.

Celine: We're supposed to be walking together

Malcolm: Well next time we're doing yoga, like I suggested. Anyway listen, I think it's time we tell our families.

I stopped walking making him stop as well and I looked at him before realizing he was serious.

Celine: Really?

Malcolm: Yea, we can't hide it forever. Once the baby gets here both sides of the family are going to want to be involved in his/her life, no point in their first meeting being in the delivery room

I sighed taking a moment to think about it, and he had a point. I looked back up at him, and he had a hopeful look in his eyes.

Celine: Okay

Malcolm: Great don't worry about a thing I'll handle it

He indeed did have it handled. He had an entire dinner scheduled for that evening and even invited my mother himself. Jessica, Ainsley, Malcolm, my mom, and I all sat at the dinner table in silence.

Celine: What happened to Teddy mom?

Mom: I called, he said he wasn't going to make it

Jessica: Teddy?

Celine: He's my brother

We sat in another awkward silence as I poked around my plate, I wasn't really hungry. I was happy my little bean wasn't making me sick right now. The silence continued for a few more moments before Jessica sighed and put her fork down on her plate.

Jessica: Okay Malcolm what's going on?

He cleared his throat, obviously being here in the moment had made him a lot more nervous.

Malcolm: Well um-Celine is pregnant...with my baby

I grabbed my glass of water and took a sip. Everybody at the table had the same shocked expression on their face.

Mom: So, you two are together?

Celine: We-um, well we work together.

Jessica: But you're not in a relationship

Malcolm: No, but-um we're friends.

Celine: Good friends

Jessica finished her wine glass and drank Ainsley's, who looked rather amused at the situation.

Ainsley: Congratulations mom, you're gonna be a grandma

After the dinner I was honestly more than happy to leave. I was walking with Malcolm and we stopped to sit on a park bench.

Malcolm: That went well right? I mean all things considering

Celine: I'd say it was a success. I'm glad it's over with, feels like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders

He grabbed my hand and I smiled. Malcolm and I weren't together, but I really felt like we were a team, and I couldn't ask for a better teammate.
