You Should Have Gone To Bed
(Poem to my future self)
You should have gone to bed
and so avoid the pain,
not written drunken thoughts,
in clever words that could not be unread,
or called her,
wounded,
in the night,
to utter things which could not be unsaid.
You should have slept,
and dreamt of her,
and woken fresh and sane,
not pound those keys
of misery,
and click 'send'
for that refrain.
Once said or read,
it could not be undone.
We were a pair,
in love were we,
but now I'm only one.
