The Day
The red balloon
rises from the roiling sea
and illuminates the star-encrusted night
in tangerine and violet,
growing orange,
as the darkness flees.
Above the turbulent horizon,
the balloon begins to blaze
in ever lighter auriate shades,
as all the stars retreat
beyond the ever bluer skies.
Aloft above the roaming clouds,
it floats along its path,
till finally it starts to sink
deep in the Western firmament,
growing ever dimmer,
in its preordained descent.
Tired in its journey now,
the red balloon,
in glorious surrender,
sinks beneath the roiling sea
to sleep until ascension sets it free.
