Kathryn feels like she's on a mission. Which, technically, they are. They have to find the gold. That's the main focus. She's not thinking about anything else. Including the fact that they are in a known killer's basement at night with no way to call the police without going to jail themselves.

"Holy crap, you know what this is?" JJ suddenly cries out. "It just hit me. This is C.H.U.D.. Full C.H.U.D.."

She vaguely remembers him forcing her to watch it. Something about sewers? In New York City? She doesn't remember the plot, only how it scarred her.

John B looks at her, confused. "What is he talking about?"

"Cannibalistic Humanoid Underground Dwellers?" JJ goes on. "Have you guys not seen that film?"

"No."

"Can't say I have, no," adds Pope.

Kathryn shudders at the memory. "You forced me to watch it. I remember. It was awful. 100% why I have PTSD now."

He huffs. "That movie's good."

"That movie's shit."

"Hey now–"

"Shut up!" John B stops, almost shouting. "Find the gold now, bickering later."

Kathryn rolls her eyes at her best friend, but obliges. If Crain finds out that they're here because her and JJ can't stop bickering, they're going to have a problem and she'll have to admit she was wrong, which is, as Pope put it, suboptimal. She has to stop stealing that sentence.

They make their way towards the well, looking down and judging how deep it is. In the dim light of their torches, it's practically impossible.

"All right. How deep do you think this is, Pope?" John B asks.

"I don't know."

Kathryn tilts her head. "Want me to throw a rock in and wait for it to go 'ploof'?"

"You know what, yeah."

She does. The drop is long before they hear the rock hit the water.

"So, don't drop him, right?" JJ says.
