Chapter Eight

Ella woke up one morning, and saw a missed call from Robert. Then she saw a text message from him.
It read:

Wake up sleepy head and go to work.
I'll come see you so make sure things are set. 😉

Robert the trouble maker

Ella laughed out loud. She checked her time, it was past nine.
Damn, she was late.
She stood up, stretched her arms and yawned. Then she went into the bathroom.

Amara wasn't around when she came downstairs. Maybe she had gone to school.
Oh yes, she left a note on the dining table saying so. Ella smiled.

Ella walked into the company and everyone applauded.
"What's going on here?" She asked.

Uche went closer to her.

"Ma'am, we're finally on top. We're the first ma'am."

"Oh my God!" She exclaimed and hugged Ella. "How, when did it happen?"

"It was announced on the news this morning ma'am."

"Wow, such great news. Get preparations for a party. I'll be throwing one today." Ella said and laughed.

"Congratulations ma'am." They all greeted.

"Its thanks to you all." She replied and smiled.

She went into her office beaming with smiles on her face. She danced a little in the office and Uche opened the door and laughed.

"Its good you're happy ma'am. Mr Robert is here to see you."

"Oh okay. Let him in."

"Hey El." Robert said as he entered. "I heard the good news. I am happy for you."

"Thanks Robby." She said and hugged him. She was so excited and didn't even know when she did that.

"You're welcome...." Robert said and returned her hug.

"Oh," she said and released him. "I am throwing a party. You should come, trouble maker." She chuckled.

"Of course I would, Miss Elf. My pleasure." He said and they both laughed.

Ella was all dressed for the party. Amara was ready too.
"Let's go sweetie." Ella said and they left for the venue.

"Here the comes, the master mind of Coker's textile and designs." Robert announced. "Miss Ella Coker."

All cameras flashed as Ella entered the hall and a round of thunderous applause filled the air.

"Thanks a lot, Robert." She said giving him a peck on the cheek.

"Welcome my Elf." He whispered in her ear. She smiled and he led her around.

Most of her staff were present. They had never seen Ella Coker so happy for years. It was nice that she was.

"The CEO's speech."

Ella climbed the podium, smiles all over her face.

"Well, it has been rough. Very tough and tiring. Always making me look like a wicked person. Most people are  surprised to see me so excited today." She said and people chuckled.

"It hasn't been easy. I know I have been rude to a lot of people and I apologize. It has always been hard for me, ever since I surfaced this earth. I dedicate this success to my late mother. Mom, this is for you." She said raising up her wine glass with teary eyes.

"Even though she died when I was still young, I won't ever forget what she taught me. May her soul rest in peace. And thank you my staff. I appreciate your hard work. My able secretary, Uche, thank you.
And to a friend I met, Robert Williams, thanks so much for making me see the brighter side of life. Thanks to you all. Cheers."

Everyone raised their wine glasses.
"Cheers."

"You spoke well Elf." Robert said as she went to meet him after the speech.

"Thanks." She replied and gave him a peck.

She turned to leave when he grabbed her arm, pulled her back and kissed her.

She didn't refuse, she didn't fight him, she just let him.

"Wow." The crowd said clapping.

Ella broke off and blushed.

They continued with the party, with Ella beaming with smiles all through.

Life is worth living with loved ones around.
