Chapter Seventeen

Ella looked her bathroom mirror.
Her eyes as red as hot coals.

She poured some water into her hands and onto her face. She sighed.

No more crying, she thought. I can't be the weakling that I once was.

She looked at the mirror again, anger in her.

Ella walked into the office.

"Morning Ma'am."

"Morning."

"Ma'am." Uche called. "Good morning."

"Morning Uche. Am I traveling soon?"

"In a week. We're going to Abuja for a national conference ma'am." Uche said.

"Okay. That's nice. Prepare my stuff like you normally do. And...."

Uche stopped walking.

"I don't want calls from people you think I know except my daughter. Simple."

"Oh yes ma'am. But there was a message.."

"Throw it away. I don't want it."

Uche was surprised.

"Okay ma'am."

Ella was determined to forget everything that had happened in the past few months with Robert Williams. To forget as quickly as she could.

Ella started reviewing her office work and plugged in her ear phone.

Robert wanted to see her. It's been days and he hasn't heard from her.

Why would she call, when I hurt her with the words I vomited from my dirty mouth, he thought.

He stopped at Coker's  Textiles and Designs. He had his assistant settle with his office work. Ella was more important.

"Ma'am said she doesn't want to be disturbed Sir." Uche said as she saw him approaching her.

"What?" He asked. "Tell her that I am here."

"She doesn't want to see anyone Sir." Uche maintained.

"I must see her." He said trying to move forward.

"Sir, don't you think its obvious that you and your Cassandra friend hurt her? She's down and she is determined to let you go. Let her be, Sir."

Robert pushed through and opened the door. Ella stared at him and looked back at her work.

"Ella I am so sorry." He said going to hold her arm.

Why this, she thought. I won't break my will.

"Don't touch me, Mr Williams. You're on private property. Please leave." She said firmly but calmly.

"Ella, I said those things out of anger, out of...."

"I don't care to know Mr Williams. You've shown the true colors and you've  gotten what you wanted. I want you to leave. I don't want to be rude."

"Ella."

Ella pressed the intercom button.

"Security, please get this man out of here."  She said and reclined I'm her chair.

"Ella please."

"There's one thing I promise you, Robert. I'll make sure you and Cassandra pay with Daniel. Ella Coker is promising."

Robert walked out of the office.

"Darn, she's really hurt. I am such a fool."
He left before anyone would notice.
