Third rule of Mafia:
Trust no one

Maria's POV:

Tonight I may have the hardest mission in my life: find a man that I don't know nothing about, not even his looks or name. I vaguely know where he is going to be.

Dad told me he wants his men with me. Not for my safety, he doesn't care about me. He wants him men with me because this mission, apparently is important and tonight it had to be done.

I didn't need his men. I am an assassin. I work alone. My father has a mafia that works together, I am not a part of that and I made sure my father understood that.

For the first time in a long time I was nervous and excited for this mission. The real challenge. All the other missions were nothing to me. This one may be a little harder. But I didn't doubt myself. This is what I've worked for, for so long. This is the night I will show it.

I started to get dressed for this job. I wore black pants and a black, short sleeved shirt. On top of it I wore a black leather jacket. Around my waist I had a black belt that held my weapons. You couldn't see it from the distance and it wasn't something someone would have figured out if they look at me.

After that I put on my black boots. Without heels because this is not the 'seduce' type of mission, this is kill and go. I put two bombs in my belt, just in case. In my boots I put two knifes, if I get abducted. And lastly... I put my love... My gun with my initials. And I know I don't use my name anymore, but I always have to have in mind that I once was this girl: Karla. Ahh! Karla was such a sweetheart.

It was an hour before the man had to show up at the club. I had to get going. I got out of the room and I saw... Adrian. Ugh! He is a pain in the ass!

"Well... Good luck. Make it out in one piece." He smirked. I gave him my fake smile: "Aren't you charming. Maybe you're a little worried for me?"

He rolled his eyes: "Huh, funny. After this mission you'll be dead, you don't have any idea what are you going against." He smirked yet again and I narrowed my eyes: "And you have an idea what I am going against?"

He went around me and lifted an eyebrow: "Ahh... Tsk tsk! That's top secret." Then he went his way. I rolled my eyes. That man is really frustrating. And uncomfortable. I always knew something was up with him. He is probably a snitch, but my dad would never believe that. Ah well... Stupid people.

After half an hour I was in a club with a rum cola in my hands. I was actually enjoying this. No one came in suspicious and after 20 more minutes I'm out of here.

I wasn't nervous anymore and I started to relax knowing I didn't need to kill anyone. Don't get me wrong. I killed thousands of people but I didn't enjoy it, nor disliked it. I was just like mehh I have to kill someone. And it didn't really matter why, when or who.

After an hour I stayed here I was starting to get bored. Bored of the guys hitting on me and bored of the drinks. I was a little tipsy too. And I couldn't be drunk at the job. Even if the job probably won't be done today. Maybe the boy that I have to kill heard about it and now is scared. I grinned at that thought. He is probably scared.

"And what is a beautiful lady like you smiling about?" I looked to my right and there was a man, maybe mid 20-ies. I looked up and down at him and he was muscular with tattoo of a stone and words "omerta". That's a mafia sign! I looked up at him with a smile because I found the guy I need to kill, I guess.

He was tall, and he had a black hair with green eyes. He wasn't ugly but he wasn't the most handsome I saw.

"Ahh... I'm just thinking about... Life."
He smiled at me and lifted an eyebrow: "A young girl like you, thinking about life when she isn't even started a life, how old are you anyway?" He laughed.

I didn't start life? I was maybe at the end of my. At any point I could get killed and it would be the end. But... He was oblivious to that, even if I had my tattoo right in front of him. Idiot!

Well... Life of a teenager ain't easy." I laughed as if I'm more than tipsy to get him off guard. "I'm 18." I had to lie, he didn't need to know I was 16.

His eyebrows lifted up. Then he was checking me out: "Well... Could've fooled me, you look 21 at least."

I fake smiled: "That's the point." And then I faked sick. I pressed my stomach with my hand and acted like it hurt.

"Are you OK?" He asked a little worried, I smiled in my mind at that. Sucker!

I shook my head no: "I'm a little sick." He nodded and grabbed my arm: "Let's go out on the fresh air."

I nodded and he led me to an exit.
Just like I wanted! He put me against the wall and he stood beside me. It was quiet for a few minutes and then I grabbed my gun and pointed at his head.

"I'm sorry sunshine but it's the end." I smiled and he looked at me blank. Probably used to this but he really was going to die any second.

"What a fool are you." I said to him in hushed tone and then whispered: "Don't know why they said this is a hard job. You're easy to get."

I put my hand on the trigger, ready to shoot. And then someone from behind put a gun to my head: "Flower what are you doing?" The voice said from behind me.

It sounded manly and strong. I rolled my eyes and looked at the man in front of me, that I was about to shoot. He smiled and said: "Kalem don't be naive, I was waiting for you." He started to take my gun but I tsked: "Tsk, tsk no! My gun stays. I will put it down tho." The man rolled his eyes and shrugged.

"You know, you would be dead if it wasn't for this asshole holding a gun at me and not letting me to turn around. Real coward of you!" I said while putting my gun in my waistband. The man behind me laughed. "Oh, flower what a mouth you have."

I rolled my eyes and for a minute I stood without saying anything. Flower?

"Flower come on you know I can't stay at your place. Your dad would kill me!" He smiled at me and ruffled my hair. I sighed: "He isn't home Matteo!"

He sighed too. "I know, but I still can't stay." He said as he tucked me in a blanket and kissed my forehead. Then he started to open the door and step out.

"Wait!" I yelled and he stopped.

"What is it Karla?" He said as he got closer to me.

"I... I'm scared. Can you at least lay down with me until I fall to sleep?" I asked giving him my puppy eyes, begging for him to stay and make everything all right.

He went thru his hair with his hand, battling with himself and deciding what to do.

"OK. But! You better fall asleep fast!"
I smiled and kissed his cheek: "Thank you!"

He smiled down at me and said: "Everything for my flower apparently!" He chuckled and laid down with me, hugging me.

I didn't even notice that the gun wasn't at my head anymore. And that a man in front of me wasn't here. The familiar man behind me was still behind me, I could feel his presence.

In the first time in forever... I was scared. Scared of what I'll see once I turn around. Is it possible that he is here? I didn't want him here! He left me! And he can't see what I made of myself, he of all people can't know how I horribly turned out.

The man behind me chuckled: "I am the one you were supposed to kill tonight flower."
