Godrick was running in the woods like he did every morning as part of his routine. He wasn't delusional, he knew a human stood little chance at defeating a vampire in hand-to-hand combat but that didn't mean he couldn't make sur he was in good enough shape to try. Plus he found the air of nature refreshing, usually.
Today the air of the forest was tense, as if it was warning away it's inhabitants. The air grew thick as Godrick came to a halt, looking around himself he searched for a disturbance. Not seeing anything he was about to resume running when suddenly a hand was putt on his right shoulder.
Reacting on instinct he grabbed his attacker's wrist with his left hand, took a step backwards and put his right hand under the mysterious persons armpit before pushing up with his knees sending his would be attacker flying over his head and slamming back first on the forest floor. Not wasting any time Godrick took the stake he always caried with him out of his sleeve and put it over the downed vampire's heart.
"Don't sneak up on me."
The words were barely audible over the deafening sound of blood pumping through the human's veins but the threat was clear, so the immortal nodded in agreement. Straightening up the Gilbert putt his stake back in his sleeve and took a moment to come down from his adrenaline high before offering his hand to the man lying on the floor. Shaking of his stupor, Stefan grabbed the offered appendage and let himself get pulled to his feet. He may be a vampire, but his diet made him weaker than most and allowed him to feel pain. And believe him when he says that getting slammed on the floor hurt like hell. He may have a broken rib or two.
"Dully noted."
Huffing a breath Godrick looked at the dried blood in the corner of the Salvatore's lips and raised an eyebrow before pointing at it. He had been wondering why he hadn't come across any animals on his run.
"Breakfast?"
A sheepish look crossed the vampire's face as he wiped the blood of. It always made him feel awkward when someone noticed blood on his face, it reminded him of his nature.
"Yeah. Sorry. I didn't expect to see anyone so far out in the woods."
Shrugging at the unasked question the Gilbert boy smirked. Not many people dared come this far out, especially considering the town's history with animal attacks.
"I like the peace that comes with being here." Seeing the other was about to speak he continued. "And I can take care of myself."
Thinking back on what just happened Stefan couldn't help but huff a little at the good-natured jab thrown his way. He had to admit he did not expect the other's quick response.
"Yeah, I can see that."
Godrick's smirk grew at the other's words before a serious expression crossed his face. It had been a couple of days since the football game tragedy and they needed to talk about it.
"Did you talk to your uncle about Damon?"
The perks of being this far out in the woods was that they could talk openly about the supernatural world without fear of being overheard.
"I haven't had the chance to yet. We can't speak openly when Damon is around but if all goes well my brother will be taken care of by tonight."
Humming along, Godrick nodded satisfied.
"Call me when you have everything figured out and I'll do what I can to help."
No one was going to hurt his family, especially not what many would consider to be a young vampire with a superiority complex.
At first Stefan was hesitant to involve the eldest Gilbert but he needed help if he wanted to stop his brother and he wouldn't stand in the way of a man protecting his family.
