Even I had to admit there was a certain bounce to my step today. I'd woken up in an unashamedly good mood; I'd hummed in the shower, practically mauled Faye in her closet as she'd tried to get dressed and I'd near enough hopped down the staircase like an excitable child. I'd tried to compose myself a couple of times, but neither had been successful, so instead I was choosing the embrace this new mood of mine.
Faye and I had parted ways a few minutes before – she'd headed towards the library, as I made a beeline for the kitchen. It was an hour earlier than the rest of the household normally began appearing, minus Senna naturally, so I figured I'd be safe to get in and out without much hassle.
Annnnd I should have known that was impossible in this place.
I was right about Senna; I swear, that woman was in her kitchen no matter how early I woke up, but I never counted for my Malanai and Knox to be there as well. When I pushed through the double doors, Senna was laughing so hard she was holding onto the counter to keep herself from falling over, my Malanai stood beside her, trying to hold back a laugh of her own. Knox was sat on one of the stools, looking thoroughly disgruntled.
"...I have never seen a young man with his trousers around his ankles run as fast as he did!"
"Stop!" Senna begged, her hand resting on her hip. "I won't be able to get the image out of my head for a long time. What made it even funnier was he fell on his face through the backdoors! All I could see was legs!"
Another eruption of laughter sounded out and I knew what they were talking about without asking. Faye had called Senna and told her to watch the show. My Malanai, however, was a surprise witness.
Knox cleared his throat, attracting the women's attention then pointed a finger toward me.
"Good morning, Ty," Senna greeted, her hand covering her mouth and muffling her laughter. "You're up early today. Want me to whip up some pancakes?"
"That would be brilliant, thanks. Mission prep all day, so the earlier we start the better."
My Malanai touched my cheek when I reached her. "Morning. How did you sleep?"
"Good!" I grinned, pressing a kiss to her cheek. "What were you just talking about?"
"Like you don't know," Senna shot at me over her shoulder as she prepped her ingredients.
My Malanai's back suddenly straightened. "You saw Rune in the gardens last night?"
I poured myself a glass of fresh juice. "Yeah, I spotted him first...how do you know about that?" I paused the glass half way to lips. "You're only on the second floor, so you wouldn't have been able to see him from your window..."
Knox peered at me over the rim of his mug. "We were in the gardens, too."
Senna and my Malanai instantly shot him an alarmed look, while I turned to him, oblivious. "Huh? You were both in the gardens? But I didn't see you."
He shrugged. "Well, we were there. We caught Rune with his trousers knotted around his ankles, with that young Aja on her knees in front of him. If he keeps messin' around with all the females in this place, like he is now, he's going to get himself in trouble."
"Not all the females," Senna pointed out as she poured the mixture into a frying pan. "Only the easy ones."
I cocked a brow at my Malanai. "But I still don't get why you were out there in the first place?" With Knox, of all people.
"We went for a walk. Knox knew I was feeling troubled over your upcoming job, so we decided to get some fresh air after dinner was over."
"Someone best warn Rayne next," Knox said, redirecting the topic. "He's out to complete the set."
