As the table erupted into a screaming match, Faye ran for the kitchen doors, her sadness bubbling over the edges of my mind. The raw emotion coming from her instantly had the happiness I'd been feeling all day take a back seat; I had no room for it if my Faye couldn't share it with me.

Senna instantly pushed up from her chair, but I waved her down, shaking my head. "I'll go."

"You complete whore!" Juno shrieked at Aja, her red eyes blazing. "You pretend to by my friend, but you're not!"

"Yeah, well, call it payback for leaving me to die, bitch!"

"I wish you had died! Faye is a fucking idiot for saving you!"

"Hey!" Senna snapped. "You're the idiot for using your teeth!"

I pushed through the kitchen doors, the arguing continuing behind me, and headed into the gardens. As soon as the evening air hit my face I could sense where my Mate was – almost like there was a lit up arrow above her head reading 'I'm here!'

I jogged into the hedge maze, mentally reaching out for her. In the last week our Bond had increased tenfold, our thoughts no longer felt like an invasion on each other, but a handy extra, and the stronger it got, the easier it was to control; which meant when we wanted to keep out of each other's heads we normally did. Faye didn't like to hear Watcher speak and I wasn't all that fussed on hearing lady chatter.

Win, win.

Unfortunately, lady talk was the last thing on Faye's mind right now.

'The thought of leaving Ty is unbearable...Aja would jump on him the first chance she got, I just know it...Maya would be happy...all the grandchildren she wanted...I can't do this...Lita or Aja...it's always going to be someone...Anne won't believe me...I don't have a ring to prove it...what's the point in telling them?'

Her mind was going a hundred miles per hour, it was nothing but a jumbled mess of worries and fears and the more she thought about it, the greater her sorrow grew.

I picked up the pace, following the path I knew she'd passed through not long before. "Faye!" I called out, ducking beneath a vine-covered archway.

'I sound like the old Faye again...not even on Earth yet...my home is here...what am I going to do...'

I rounded a corner, took a left and there she was. On the back wall of the maze was an alcove with a wooden swing bench tucked inside, complete with shelter overhead and lined with cushions. Faye was tucked into the corner of one side, her legs tucked up to her chest, her face buried in her knees as the swing swayed ever so slightly under her weight.

"There you are," I breathed, slowly making my way towards her. She didn't move as I sat next to her, my arms resting against my legs. "Tell me what's wrong, Katinar."

Faye shook her head.

Reaching out, I tucked a lock of blonde hair behind her ear, my thumb brushing at its round outline. "I thought you wanted to go home?"

"This is my home!" She exclaimed from behind her knees.

"Okay, okay, I know, what I meant to say was I thought you wanted to see your family?"

"I do." A sensed a lingering 'but' behind that.

Slowly, her glassy blue eyes appeared as she lifted her head and I could see her cheeks were damp from crying. Leaning back, I gently gripped her ankles, turning her to face me and draped her legs over my lap, my hand resting against her calf as my other arm moved around her back.

"I'm sorry I can't come with you, Faye. I really am. Taking someone home to meet the family is something everyone should get the chance to do and it hurts my heart that I can't do that for you."
