"Kate, come on. Please," Rick whined as we sat in the breakroom of the precinct

I answered, "No," plainly.

"Please. I'll make you breakfast in bed for a week."

"No, Castle."

"Two weeks. And I'll do laundry. And I'll even stick to diaper duty for a week."

This time, it was tempting. I thought about it, weighing the options and seriously concidering doing what he wanted. But then I looked out into the precinct and decided, "Rick, I cannot in good conscience let you bring Alexis' boyfriend into the interrogation room just to psych him out."

"You're no fun," Castle pouted.

I replied, "Yes, well, someone had to save Alexis from dier embarassment and her boyfriend from your cruel torture."

"Oh, please. I'm sure Mike would laugh it off," Castle stated. My silent, condiscending look almost didn't seem to be enough for that stupidity, but it shut him up and that was enough for me. After Castle finally finished with our cups of coffee (decaff for me, which had become a favorite of mine) we went back out into the bullpen where the boys were packing up for the night.

Once he and Ryan both had their keys in their hands and were completely ready to go, they joined us in front of the murder board and Ryan teased, "Wow, I think this is the first time you two have been the last ones here since before the shooting."

Suddenly it dawned on me that he was absolutely right, except for the fact that, "No, we were here late a few months back. I can't remember what was special about that night, but I do remember I seemed to have one less pain in the ass swirrling around the precinct."

"Yeah," Javi trailed, "I remember that too. It felt more macho without the vest floating around."

Ryan answered, "You guys suck, you know that?"

"Hey, I missed you, bro," Castle commented.

"Great, so only the writer monkey missed me. I feel loved, guys. Really. I do."

Everyone ignored Castle's wounded exclamation and instead Espo commented, "Bro, if you're looking for love here and not at home with your smokin' hot wife, it might be time to come out of the closet."

"Yeah, honeymilk. We'll judge you just the same," Castle prompted. Ryan then opened his mouth to respond, but could think of nothing to say and fell silent. After that, it was pretty much the end. The boys told us to enjoy our night and then disappeared. With them gone, I got straight back to work.

After an hour or so, I picked up the phone and called Alexis while Rick was off in the restroom doing God only knows what. She told me how her day off with her brother had gone so well and that she was glad she'd been able to spend the day with him. I continued to talk with her for a bit longer until somehow she seemed to read my mind and volunteer her baby sitting powers for the evening if I had more work I needed to do. I told her I'd probably stay late, but that her father would be getting home shortly. She told me not to rush or anything, but he was starting to get bored and the precinct was entirely empty aside from holding and the guys on the lower floors. Alexis then said, being the sweetheart that she always had been, "Well, if he wants to come home he can, but I'll be here with B if he wants to stay. I mean, maybe you could wrestle him into talking about the wedding while you're there. At least at the precinct there aren't any distractions." I laughed at this a bit, thanked her, and then let her get back to making silly faces at her brother whose laughter I could hear perfectly through the background noise.
