This week was long. Too long. We had film crews following us around because God knows if a pop star killed, we have to get his murder investigation on film to broadcast it to the entire world. Not only that but everyone was throwing themselves in front of the camera. It was so god damn annoying. But aside from that, at least when I asked Castle to leave B out of this, he agreed and went so far as to not even mention our son in front of the cameras. I have a feeling he caught up on the gist of my annoyance well enough to know that I wasn't in the mood to watch morons fawn over my kid and put a camera in his face and my face and so on. Luckily the boys and Lanie also refrained from asking about him, possibly by Castle's heads up, but probably just by luck or the fact that they weren't acting like themselves for want to be in front of the lens.
Another plus came when Rick especially dialed down the couple act quite a bit. The only rather couple like thing he did was bring me a cup of coffee every now and again. During lunches, we even went as far as taking turns to head down to the nursery for play time with our favorite honey-B. And those breaks were much needed every time I took one. It wasn't as though we needed to hide our relationship or anything, I just didn't want the world sticking their noses into our business. I was an author's fiancé, so, as Rick pointed out, my privacy wasn't entirely assured, but I still wanted a reasonable amount of space. He wasn't Brad Pitt. My expectation wasn't so outrageous.
Anyway, the charade had finally ended yesterday afternoon and we were through with the whole situation. Or so I thought anyway. That is, Rick and I were now, once again, sitting in Gates' office waiting for our asses to be handed to us or for someone to drop a bomb shell. She closed the door and the minute she did, she turned to us and directed herself at Rick. "Mr. Castle, have you Google searched yourself in the last day or so?"
"No sir. Have you?"
Her eyes went slight. "Apparently someone at One P.P has searched you, Mr. Castle, and they came up with an interesting photo from our camera crews."
"Another problem from those film morons?" Castle questioned. I was looking over at him just simply to question what he did, but he didn't see the look.
Gates then moved to her desk and spun her computer toward us. There, displayed on the screen in massive print was a picture taken of Rick and I, his back to the camera, my profile visibly gazing into his eyes, smiling at him passionately as he soothed my concerns by leaving his hand on my cheek. The caption beneath read "Killer Passion Behind the Scenes". I was awe stricken. My jaw went slack.
My captain continued, "Apparently that is how that crew is getting publicity for their video. They're selling your behind the scenes love story."
"How?! We were so careful not to do anything... like this. This was our one and only slip up and it lasted for twenty seconds tops," I argued.
"I know, I saw the footage."
Rick and I were instantly confused. "You saw the footage?"
"Yes."
"Then why is this a problem? You know that's one instant for microseconds," Castle furthered.
Gates took a seat. "Public perception, Mr. Castle. I can't have people thinking my detectives are distracted and not doing their jobs."
"But anyone who sees that will see us constantly doing the job," I stated.
"And there will be plenty of people who don't see that footage, but see that picture."
Rick then looked at me and back at her, "What do you want us to do about that?"
Her brow raised. I hated it when her brow raised. She then leaned forward and told Rick directly, "Make sure more people watch the video."
