Everything is going wrong today: I got a 32 in my Physics test, still didn't see a sign of Leo, my parents would be home any moment, and I couldn't pinpoint where Leo might be.

He doesn't use his phone, never needed it for contacts or anything -he doesn't have friends- I'm not in the slightest some laptop genius that can track locations.

"Okay, Leo is studying at school." Thinking of a lie to convince my parents that Leo would be home soon at almost midnight is harder than I thought.

"Leo is helping dying birds live?"

Nothing would make sense. What could he be doing so late, and not telling me anything about it is such a great idea.

"I'm so tired." The locks click one after the other, my parents are home, and with the help of my faith, they wouldn't realize Leo isn't home yet.

"Do you think Leo's asleep?" I press my ear to my door, hoping for the first time they wouldn't care about me.

"Maybe. He needs all the sleep he can get for that brain of his." A clear distinct wave of laughter resounds in my ear.

"But how much sleep does a teenager need? What about just for a few minutes so he can see the gifts?" My heart fell.

"He's not just any teenager, he's a brilliant one. I'm excited too but wait till morning." The soft pads of their feet fades when their door shuts.

The wind rattles against my window but the sounds of a coming thunderstorm revolts around the house. A fine line of lightning strikes, the figure of an old tree shadows on my wall, and just like that, the downpour begins, and Leo isn't home.

My back rests on the window seat, eyes trying to spot Leo anywhere even if he's freezing or dying, I don't want to lose my brother. He's the only person that remotely knows I'm alive, he might not acknowledge me, but he knows I'm alive and that's enough for me.

"Reo? You awake?" My door opens before I can run to my bed and dive in. On instinct, I close my eyes and relax more on the window.

"Why are you sleeping there?" My mom's hands weave through my hair. "Goodnight Reo."

The door clicks close behind her. The small affectionate goodnight is enough to out a smile on my face and help me fall asleep, someone else remembered me, and that's enough for me to fall asleep without the thoughts of Leo.
