Chapter 20

When we got to the Great Hall everyone was already there eating. I noticed that Valka had put her mask back on when we walked into the Great Hall due to no one knowing that she is alive. I followed the Chief and his wife over to a table where Gobber and the teens were sitting. "Hey, Chief." Was heard as we got closer to the table. As I sat down and was about to grab a plate of food when Fishlegs asked, "Hey um, where is Hiccup?"

"He had to go back to the Edge to get a few things and is now staying there for the night," I said. "Why?" Snoutlout asked. "Something has happened, and some Dragons Riders have gone missing. So, Hiccup is staying to help find them." I explained. They nodded and we started to eat. I was trying to finish my dinner quickly so I could get back to Thalia as I didn't want to leave her for a long period of time. "So, where were you all day then Astrid?" Ruff asked me.

"I was with Hiccup up till he had to leave," I answered Ruff's question. "Okay, and where were the two of you then?" Tuff decided to ask this time. I just ignored the question and continued to eat my dinner. Once dinner was over, I was about to stand up so I could leave and get back to Thalia when I heard the Chief say, "We better do the announcement now then."

"I thought we were going to do that when Hiccup was around. Plus, I need to get back to Thalia." I said. "What whose Thalia?" Was heard from the gang in the background which I just ignored. "Well this can't wait the Village need to know now Astrid and you can get back to her after the announcement," Stoick said. I sat down with a huff and I placed my elbow on the table with my head leaning on my hand as the Chief and Valka stood up and walked to the front of the Great Hall. "Listen up people of berk I have an announcement to make," Stoick called getting everyone's attention.

"As you know that my Son Hiccup is back and alive. And today I found out that my wife Valka is alive, and she has been living with dragons for 18 years and the last 3 years she has been staying on Dragon's Edge with Hiccup and his Riders." Stoick said as Valka took her mask off and stepped forward. When Valka took her mask of everyone in the Hall gasped loudly.

"Did you know about this Astrid?" Fishlegs asked me. "Yes, Fishlegs I did know about this," I replied. "And one more thing. The young girl who was rushed to the Healers hut is umm... Well, there is no easy way to say this, but Hiccup has a daughter and she is very sick at the moment and our Healer does not know of a cure for her." Once again, everyone gasped loudly when they heard of Hiccup having a daughter. Everyone was trying to talk over each other to get some answers. I was ready to storm out of the Great Hall.

"Astrid, did you know about any of this?" My mum asked me as she walked over to me. That was when the Hall went quiet. "Yes, Mum I did know that Hiccup had a Daughter. He told me the other day before he got word that Thalia was sick." I told her. I could see the gears starting to turn in my mother's head. "You can't marry Hiccup now after we just heard the news about him having a daughter. He probably also has a wife on the Island of his." I mum yells out and a few Vikings yell to agree with her. "Now hold on Mum. Hiccup does not have a wife." I said starting to yell back. "And how do you know that." She asked.

"Because Hiccup told me himself when he told me about Thalia," I yelled. "He could have been lying!" My Mum yelled back. "Now hang on Helga. Hiccup never lies. What Astrid said is true does not have a wife, but he used too." Valka said. Mum crossed her arm looking smudged when Valka said he used to. "Three years ago, Hiccup did get married then 9 months later they had a little girl but a month later his wife got sick and passed away," Valka said,

most people looked down in shame at what they were thinking about their future Chief. "Just like Valka said Hiccup's wife passed away. Now if you excuse me, Mum, I have to get back to Thalia since I am watching her while Hiccup is away." I said. After that, I did not know what happen as I walked out of the Hall and went back to the Healer's house to be with Thalia.

When I got back to the house, I found Thalia awake and out of bed. "You should still be in bed Thalia," I said as I walked over and placed her soup on the table beside the bed. "I was looking for you or Daddy." She said. "I was just at the Great Hall having some Dinner and bought you some soup. Do you want something to eat?" I asked her. She nodded and walked back towards the bed. I helped her onto the bed and then bought the bowl of soup closer to her. "Astrid where is Daddy," She asked me. "He went back to the Edge," I told her.

"But Daddy should be back by now," Thalia said. I didn't know what to tell her, so I did not say anything else about it, I just helped her with her soup. After a couple of mouth full she pushed the spoon away. "No more Astrid." She said. "Thalia you need to eat something. Your Grandma said that you haven't eaten anything since last night." I said to her trying to give her some more soup, but she kept pushing my hand away. "I am not hungry." Thalia moaned.

"Alright. We will try again later okay." I told her. Just as I was putting the bowl of soup down, I heard someone enter the house. I turned to see Stoick, Valka, and my parents standing just in the doorway of Gothi's house. "Did she eat something, Astrid?" Valka asked me.

"She had a couple of spoons full of soup but that is it," I said not looking at the adults. I could not look at my parents after what happened back in the Great Hall. I heard someone walk towards Thalia and I. "Grandma." Thalia said. "Hello Darling, how are you feeling?" Valka asked her. "My tummy is still sore." She said while holding her stomach. "It is going to be okay sweetie."

"Come on hop back into bed," I said to Thalia. I stood up from the bed and helped her to get under the covers and tucked her in. "Astrid when is Daddy going to be back?" She asked me. I sat down on the bed beside her. "Honey, your Father is staying at the Edge for the night and he will be back in a couple of days," I explained to her as I stroked her cheek. "But I want Daddy," Thalia said starting to cry. "Shh. I know Honey, and he will be back as soon as he can." I said to her.

The next minute Gothi had come back to check on Thalia. "How is she Gothi?" I heard Stoick ask our Healer. I looked at Gothi as she drew her answer in some sand. "She says that her temperature is getting higher," Valka said reading what Gothi and drawn. "Do we know what she has?" Mum asked us. "No, we don't know.

We just have to wait for Heather and Dagur to get back with information from the Defenders of the Wing." I said. "We should let Thalia get some sleep. Astrid, I guess you are staying." I nodded when the Chief asked me that.

"Alright, then we will be back in the morning," Stoick said. After that, they all left leaving just Thalia and I in the house. "Get some sleep, Thalia. I will be here when you wake up." I said to her. I laid down beside her and wrapped my arms around her as she fell asleep.
