Chapter 16: Childhood Frenemies?

After Mr. Ackerman's dreadful class, the bell finally rang and everyone was out.
Eren: Maaaaan, class was boring as shit.

Armin: What's wrong? Is your head elsewhere?

Eren: What are you implying?

Armin: I mean, every since they talked about the dance, you've always been distracted.

Eren: I mean, yes, I'll be taking my girl there, so of course I focus on what's the atmosphere gonna be like.

Armin: Well... You're at least lucky to have a date...

Eren: Don't worry man, the Halloween Party is in two weeks, by that time you'll find someone to go with.

Mikasa blushed a little when Eren called her "his girl". Then she asked herself "If he treats me this way, why do I get so damn jealous when Annie is next to him? Well... It happens, I guess, it's normal".

Sasha: Lol guys what if I came dressed as a literal potato?

Ymir: Sasha, even without a costume, you look like a potato.

Historia scolded her.

Historia: Ymir! That was mean! Apologise immediately!

Ymir laughed. The other two girls did too.

Historia: But seriously, Mikasa, every time Annie gets close to him, I can see literal death in your eyes.

Ymir: What could it be? - she said, as she wrapped her arm around her shoulders.

Ymir: Lemme guess, childhood frenemies?

Mikasa: How could you tell.

Ymir laughed again.

Annie was just in a corner reading another Sherlock Holmes book. She didn't care about any parties, any celebrations, nothing. She never liked the chaos and crowds, or even socializing, which is why she barely had any friends. Her type of day was: rainy day, staying home, Netflix and chill or read books.

Eren went next to her.

Eren: I know you're the type of person who doesn't like big celebrations, but would you consider coming?

Annie: Hm.. Lemme think... No.

Eren: Why?

Annie: You gave yourself the answer - she said as she flipped a page of the book.

Eren: Well, what if you had someone to go with?

Annie: Hmm... Well, perhaps. I don't even know what costume to wear.

Eren: Well, I'm going with Mikasa, soo-

Annie: Sure, have fun.

Eren: But, I mean, you don't need a date to go the party. You can even have a group of friends.

Historia got close to them, as she overheard the conversation, and she said: "Yeah! You could come with us!"

Mikasa rolled her eyes and sighed deeply.

Sasha: Yeah! We could go shopping for some costumes, it would be fun, wouldn't it?

Ymir: Sasha, stop coming up with excuses just so we can go to the mall and you can stop at every food shop you find.

Sasha giggled.

Historia: Yeah, it would be fun!

Annie took a long time to decide.

Eren:... So? Wanna come with us?

Annie smiled very small.

Annie: Sure, why not. If I have the right people to go with, I won't have to stay in the house on Halloween night as usual.

Eren got up and clapped.

Eren: All right, it's settled! So, when do we go?

Ymir: Well, considering that the party is in two weeks...

Historia: How about on Friday, at 8 pm?

Eren: Hold up-

Mikasa: I don't think I can come.

Then she left with the girls while Annie stood there and kept reading her book.
