Chapter 39; The moment of truth

It was already late so we decided not to go back to the mountain village. I could see on Taehyung's and Jane's faces they weren't used to situations like that. And as far as I was concerned, I felt awake and alive. 

"This was amazing, Jane. You acted like a pro! Maybe you were a secret agent in your previous life." I said. "It's possible! I feel great!" Jane said happy. "You two are still under the influence of the adrenaline! You can't even imagine what would've happened to us if they'd caught us. Y/n, they wouldn't forgiven us that easily." Taehyung said. "Both of us were aware of the risk. But it wasn't in vain. Look what I found!" I said.

We gathered around my phone and I played the first video Noah and I were there. "It looks like Noah's giving me something. Maybe some keys... I'm not sure." I said. "I remember she was in a really good mood that day." Taehyung said. "Yeah... She seems way to friendly. Like the witch who gave the poisoned apple to snow white." Jane said annoyed.

We played the next video.... Taehyung and I were in it and we were fighting in front of the bungalow where we stayed. "I felt really bad after our fight. I didn't know how to convince you I hadn't cheated on you." Taehyung said looking sad. "I believe you now, Taehyung. I wouldn't be here otherwise." I said. "Thank you, babe." Taehyung said.

I played the next video. Several snowmobiles were parked behind the bungalow. I chose one of them, put the keys into the ignition, turned the snowmobile on and drove away. "Y/n, do you remember where you went?" Jane asked. "No..." I said. "There's  nothing else in the video." Taehyung said. "Y/n, go fast forward a bit." Jane said. We could see Noah returning there. She seemed scared. And then, Jin showed up out of nowhere. He was persuading Noah into something while she was shaking her head. When she calmed down, she took a gun out of her pocket and gave it to Jin. Noah's hands were shanking, but she nodded in approval anyway. Then they kissed and she drove away. "Oh my god!" Jane yelled. "Things are getting really serious! We have to report this! Someone hushed everything up." Taehyung explained. "I don't know what to think." I said.

My body was still feeling the adrenaline rush and it couldn't fight the fear which overwhelmed me. Suddenly I got a stabbing headache and I closed my eyes and pressed my temples. At that moment, a new memory resurfaced after a long time. I was riding the snowmobile and looking behind me. I heard a gunshot and turned left. Another snowmobile was chasing me. It was driven by a man.... And the last gunshot... And then... Darkness.

Truth is treason in the empire of lies. Whether it liberated or imprisons us, one thing is certain -truth hurts. When I saw the video from the security camera, it was clear that I opened another door to the past, a door which had been locked until the precise moment. Maybe Noah wasn't the only one to blame. Or maybe she was manipulated just as I was. 

"Y/n! Y/n! Can you hear me?" Taehyung yelled worried. "Yes, Tae... I'm fine." I said. "You're pale as a ghost, Y/n... Sit down, drink some water." Jane said. "She's probably exhausted." Taehyung said looking worried. "No,it's not that..." Jane said. "Don't worry, I'm fine. Just give me a moment to pull myself together and I'll tell you what happened to me." I said. They were patiently waiting for me to drink the water and catch my breath. "My memory returned.... As soon as I saw Noah giving the gun to Jin, I remembered everything that happened just before the accident." I said.

I told them I was sure that Jin had chased me with the snowmobile and that he was the one who had fired the gun. "And after that... I probably lost control and hit a tree. The rest is history." I explained. "That dirtbag! He'll finally pay for what he did!" Taehyung said angry. "Noah and Jin should both pay for their crimes! We finally have proof!" Jane said angry. "It's time for us to make a move, but the real question is when we're gonna face Noah." I said. "First of all, let's make copies of those videos and store them somewhere safe." Taehyung suggested. "I couldn't agree more." Jane said. "If I could wait this long, what's one more day... I can't wait to see Noah's face when I tell her it's her turn to disappear, or else..." I said with a smirk. "Disappear? What do you mean exactly Y/n?" Taehyung asked. "I want her to be locked up behind bars for the rest of her life and we'll be the ones to put her there! I wanna forget I have a sister." I said angry. "Oh, Y/n... You have me, I mean... All of us!" Jane said. "When the time comes, you can be sure we'll all be by your side. You won't have to look over your shoulder anymore and be afraid of the ghosts of the past." Taehyung said. 

My wish for justice and revenge was overwhelming, and for the first time ever, I felt that wish was going to be fulfilled. "I'm not sure how carefully you were watching the video, but I couldn't help but notice that Noah was crying." Taehyung said out of nowhere. "I thought the same thing. Although, I don't really care much about her tears." Jane said annoyed. "Y/n, I wonder why Noah cried in the video." Taehyung said. "I don't care why she cried!" I said annoyed. "Y/n, let me see the video again perhaps. perhaps Noah's tears will tell us more. Than we know about what happened between her and Jin." Jane suggested. "Yes, Jane, I have some ideas too, but I wanna be sure before I stay them out loud."  Taehyung said laughing.  "I'm not sure I understand... You're confusing me. Let's watch the video one more time." I said.

I didn't wanna look at the people who wanted me dead, but what if Jane and my boyfriend were right? I played the video again, but this time in slow motion and I paused it at the moment when Noah gave to gun to Jin. "Noah looks likes scared child here. I almost never saw her crying when we were little." I said. "Look how Jin seems cruel and serious." Taehyung said. "Noah's in love with Jin, she just skillfully hides her feelings, but to him. She showed how she truly felt." Jane said. "Do you really think her suffering is honest?! Whose side are you on?!" I asked annoyed. "Y/n, try looking at the video from a neutral point of view. How would Noah look to you if you didn't know her?" Taehyung asked.

I put aside everything I knew and felt in order to look at the situation from Noah's angle. There wasn't a doubt - she was sad. When I looked at her better, I concluded she seemed like she was forced into something. That was the moment when everything felt into place. "Do you see what we see, Y/n?" Jane asked. "I think Noah was crying cause she didn't wanna hurt me, although Jin demanded that from her." I said. "Exactly..." Taehyung said. "A woman in love is ready to do anything, but then again... Noah still had conscience to refuse to obey the man she loved. You are sisters after all." Jane said. "That means Noah returned the gun to Jin. And then he took the matter into his own hands and came after me. Who knows how long they had been planning that winter vacation before Noah even invited me to go with them." I said. "I wish  I'd realized all this before. But Jin was cleverly hiding from us." Taehyung said mad. "Are you sure that you've never seen him before?" Jane asked curious. "I haven't..." I said. "Me neither.... He probably got there after Noah. They would meet up only when they were sure Y/n wasn't around." Taehyung explained. "That means Noah had something on Jin and that was why he did everything she asked and wrote those articles revealing information she wanted to be public." I said finally understanding it. "Exactly. Although.... I think the tables are turned now." Jane said. "Noah's relaxed, she believes she won. Now's our time to shine." Taehyung said with a smirk. "We should prepare then." I suggested. "I know a bar which is still open. I'll call the others to join us. The more aliens and witnesses - the better." Jane said.

After everything we'd discovered and faced, we went to a bar - the only logical meeting point.
