-2- The new manager of care services
POV Yibo
A/N: The first two chapters serve to get to know our two main protagonists, to learn how they came to this work and what an usual day is like for them. If this chapter should be too boring for you, just wait for the next one. :)
If you had to describe Wang Yibo with three words, the people who know him would probably describe him as, Introverted, Sporty and Ambitious. And almost everyone who gets to know him is stunned that of all people this 24 year old man, who always has the same cold expression on his face, works as a caregiver.
Driven by his ambition, he trained as a care professional after graduating from school and studied alongside. And while his colleagues, including his parents and his big brother, are content with their job, Wang Yibo was striving for more. He wanted to be more than just a simple caregiver. He wanted to be a team leader. And when he had achieved that, he wanted to be a care manager.
And that's exactly what he's succeeded at now. A week ago, yibo was called up to his supervisor, who congratulated him on his new job as care manager. And even though Yibo was happy about it, he looked at his supervisor with that same cold look on his face and said, "Thank you, I will do my best."
But unfortunately, it didn't go the way he wanted it to. Because for his new job, he has to switch to another area. Away from house three, to house one in the elderly care area. And therefore, away from his family.
They all worked in the same house. What was great for Yibo, not only did they all share the same passion and work together as a family, no, his family always supported him and explained to other employees that Yibo was neither rude, nor arrogant, nor did he think he is better than his colleagues, because he only talked to the residents and not to his colleagues. And in the years that he has been working there now and was often there with his parents before, the staff got to know and appreciate him.
But now, for the first time, Yibo will not be able to count on his family and has to manage on his own for the first time. This scares him a little, because how is he supposed to lead a group of employees if he can't talk to them properly?
But because Yibo is not someone who gets discouraged easily and likes to face new challenges, he is also looking forward to his new task and is already very excited about it. And today would be his first day in the new area.
An usual day, as it was until yesterday, looked like this for Yibo.
Every day before work he went jogging for 45 minutes, after that he showered and ate with his family. Then his parents and his brother drove their cars to work and he followed them on his motorcycle.
When he arrived at his work area, he changed his clothes, his work clothes consisting of a sunny yellow shirt and white pants, and white sneakers. Each area and house at Gusu Lan has its own shirt color.
As soon as Yibo had changed, he grabbed his cart for the dirty clothes, clean laundry, diapers, washcloths and towels and went to the first resident. In his area there are only handicapped residents who are in need of care because of their physical handicap.
He enters the double bedroom, opens the blinds and quietly wakes up the two residents. And then Yibo starts his daily routine. He goes into the bathroom, fills a bowl with warm water and brings it into the room of the two residents. Then Yibo takes the first resident's washing utensils from his nightstand and starts to undress and wash the resident, change him a new diaper, put clean clothes on him and go to the next resident where he repeats everything. And twice a week, he also changes the bed linen.
With this routine he goes from room to room. But due to the handicaps of the residents, this is of course not as fast and often he needs more than half an hour for two residents. But unlike in other facilities, this is exactly what is desired and allowed here. Not only stubborn and fast working. In Gusu Lan the human being counts and everyone who works there treats the residents with patience and heart.
Yibo had already known as a small boy exactly what he wanted and where he wanted to work later. And for him, only Gusu Lan came into question. Because he was always enthusiastic about the Gusu Lan philosophy that the humans come first.
At 9 am Yibo and his colleagues have a 20 minute breakfast break, which they spend in a small room. They don't talk much at breakfast and if they do, they only talk about work. About possible changes in appointments, health conditions of the residents, doctor's appointments or when a resident needs a new prescription for medication again.
After breakfast, if Yibo is not finished with the residents yet, he continues. And then the other part of his work starts, cleaning and tidying the rooms. For this he gets another cart, like the cleaning staff usually has, and then goes from room to room with it.
He cleans and disinfects the bathrooms, wipes dust on the cupboards, sorts clean laundry into the wardrobes, checks the night stands for things that need to be disposed of, empties the trash can and finally wipes the floor. Actually, they once had cleaning staff to do this, but since the occasional checks were often judged to be inadequate, it must now be done by the care staff.
Yibo usually uses the lunch break at 12:30 pm for a quick snack and then takes care of the paperwork. Where he has to fill in, for example, who had stool and who didn't, because the nurses need this information due to the medication. He has to indicate whether good or bad food was eaten, and what he did and by whom.
After his lunch break, he takes care of the rest of the rooms, as far as he can get, and then he can leave at 2 pm after informing his replacement about everything important of that day.
At least that was the case until yesterday and from today on, when he takes over his job as a care service manager, actually it is only a better team leader, a new daily routine begins for him.
From today Yibo will no longer have to wash residents or clean and tidy their rooms. His day begins and ends in the office. From now on, he has other important tasks to perform.
For Yibo, this means that he will start working at 8 am.
In order to get a proper impression of his new area, the residents and staff, Yibo set himself a deadline of 14 days to simply observe and make an assessment. Of course besides his new tasks, like handing out medicines, ordering new prescriptions for medication, making arrangements for doctor's appointments, ordering ambulance transportation, talking to family members, who are looking for a care place for their loved ones and so on and so forth.
And although there are many new things waiting for Yibo, and he himself first has to learn a lot about them, he is already very happy. Nevertheless, he will miss his family, because for the first time he is alone. He will have to rise above himself if he wants to keep this new job and do it well.
A/N: It might be boring to read this. But it's really only meant to help you to get to know Zhan and also Yibo a little bit. Or something like that. I hope that the next chapter and with it the first meeting of Zhan and Yibo will be more exciting.
