-14- Surprising realization

Zhan stood nervously on the train platform two, waiting for his parents to arrive. Actually they had wanted to come with their car, but then they decided differently. Firstly, because Zhan's father does not like long car rides and secondly, because they always loved train rides.

And now Zhan stood alone on the platform waiting for them. Actually Yibo had wanted to accompany him, but Zhan said it would be better if he picked them up alone and only found out about Yibo at home. Zhan wanted to avoid a fuss at the train station.

When the train finally entered the platform and his parents got off, they hugged Zhan and were deeply happy to finally see each other again. But as soon as they were in the car, which Yibo had let repaired, his nervousness was almost immeasurable. Never before had Zhan been so afraid to confess something to his parents.

On the way home, his parents told him about the new house they would soon move into. Their old house, in which they lived for 23 years for rent, was sold after the owner died a year ago. The new owner, however, gave them a period of six months in which they could look for a new house in peace. At first it looked hopeless, because there were no free houses for rent in the village and all the other villages were too far away from the farm where Zhan's father works.

But then a few weeks ago the Ying's house became vacant, after the older couple decided to retire and look for a place to live in a house suitable for their age. For Zhan's parents this means that they can move, in two weeks, into the house that is ready for move-in. And they have already packed everything and organized many helpers. Fortunately, the new house is right next door, so the helpers just have to carry everything from one house to the other.

Zhan wondered why his parents didn't ask him to help them move. But he assumed that it was probably because the journey to the new house is so long and he has to work.

When they arrived at Zhan's home, he unlocked the door with a painfully beating heart and let his parents into the apartment where Yibo was already waiting with a set table for the arrival of the three.

Zhan brought the bags to the guest room, which actually serves as an office for him, and his parents sat down at the table with Yibo. No one said a word after Yibo had greeted them friendly with a "good day".

After Zhan also sat down at the table and poured his parents a cup of tea, it was his father who first started talking. "Well, I don't suppose you're just a guest or roommate of our Zhan, are you?" He asked Yibo in a stern voice.

"No, sir." Yibo replied calmly.

Zhan's nerves were almost completely shot. He started sweating and his hands shook. "Ah Zhan, there's no need to be so afraid." His mother said lovingly as she reached out and stroked his hand.

"Mom, Dad, I have something to tell you." Zhan replied in a trembling voice.

"You want us to meet your boyfriend, don't you?" His father asked.

Zhan had tears in his eyes and nodded. "Yes. This is Wang Yibo, my boyfriend."

Yibo reached for Zhan's free hand and held it tight. "It's a pleasure to meet you." He said politely.

"It's nice to meet you, too. We are glad our son has finally found someone to introduce us." Said Zhan's mother calmly.

Zhan couldn't believe what he heard. But when his father said, "Ah Zhan, we've known you are gay for a long time. We were just waiting for you to tell us too. We didn't want to pressure you and leave it up to you, when you opened up to us."

"You really knew?" Asked Zhan in shock.

"We knew it. And we suspected you were going to introduce us to someone when you invited us here. I admit, after we figured out that our son is gay on our own about four years ago, we had problems with the thought at first. But then we talked to our pastor at our church. He is a young man and thinks very modern. And he said that you are still the same, that you are still our son and that nothing changes. Just that we probably won't have a daughter-in-law, but a son-in-law. And he even told us that you can even get married abroad properly and you can adopt children or take a surrogate mother." Zhan's father explained.

"The surprising realization that my dear boy is gay scared me at first. I thought you would never be able to have a normal married life with children, but after talking to the pastor, we realized you don't have to give anything up because of it." Said his mother.

"And I will make Zhan happy. After all, that's what really matters." Said Yibo.

Zhan's mother nodded and said, "He is obviously already very happy. I am glad my son has found someone who loves him and seems to care about his happiness."

"I care about Zhan's happiness and I'm very serious about him." Said Yibo.

"I just hope you haven't been with many others before, because our son should not date someone who has jumped through several beds." Said Zhan's father.

"Zhan is my first boyfriend. I' ve never been with anyone else before, just like him. And I have no intention of ever dating anyone else. I love Zhan very much and want to be with him." Yibo answered very seriously.

"Then I am reassured. I hope your family will also accept our son." Said Zhan's father.

"Mhm, my family loves Zhan very much. My parents and my brother liked him from the beginning. Even before we started dating, they were attracted to him." Yibo proudly explained.

Only little by little did Zhan realize that his fears, that his family might reject him and Yibo, were unfounded. It was more than just a relief for him that his parents not only accepted him as their gay son, but also the man he loved. Whereby Zhan didn't intend to end his relationship with Yibo anyway, if his parents reject him.

After Zhan fell in love with Yibo and the two became a couple, he knew that he wouldn't give up Yibo again. He would also stay with him if it meant his parents would reject or even hate him for it.

Within an hour of meeting Zhan's parents, Zhan realized that he and Yibo would have a harmonious weekend with his parents. Only one thing was uncomfortable for a moment. When his mother said that she knew already after this short time that Yibo is the one who is on top.

Zhan had never heard his parents talk about sex before and certainly hadn't expected his parents to worry about his sex with Yibo. Only once as a child had he overheard his mother talking to a friend about sex as a married duty. But at that time he was still very young and thought sex was something that didn't make fun.

Together the four of them sat relaxed at the table. Zhan and Yibo told their story of how they first met, with a beaming smile, falling in love with each other and finally coming together. They didn't leave anything out, not even how bumpy their start was. Zhan's father then said, "You had to go through a few trials before you could be together. That's how you proved that you really belong together."

Zhan nodded. He would have liked to forego these trials, but they helped him and Yibo to get to know each other better, to get closer, to understand each other better and to become stronger. So Zhan was grateful for all of this. Especially because it was right at the beginning of their relationship and not when they already were a couple.
