POV Zhan

After Zhan came home yesterday, and after a long talk with his sister, he was ready for a new start with his new supervisor. Zhan's sister reminded him once again that he shouldn't take everything too much to heart and that his new supervisor might have asked him so many questions just because he wants to get to know him better and evaluate him and not criticize him.

And after the phone call with his sister, he was just embarrassed by his overreaction towards Wang Yibo. Therefore, he decided to first apologize to Wang Yibo for his behavior and to offer a new start.

When Zhan arrived at work, the first thing he did was go to his new supervisor's office, knock on the door and wait to be called in. But instead of calling in, Wang Yibo himself opened the door. Zhan swallowed, took a deep breath and said, "Good morning Mr. Wang. I wanted to apologize to you for yesterday. I shouldn't have reacted that way and I'm very sorry. I hope you can accept my apology and we can begin again." Zhan breathed out and waited for an answer.

"Mn. Good morning. It's OK about yesterday." He said softly.

"Um, okay. I'd better get back to work." Zhan replied confused. Does this mean Wang Yibo accepted his apology? Could they make a restart? Since he did not dare to ask his new superiors, he went to the changing room and changed his clothes.

And while Zhan was preparing breakfast for the residents, Wang Yibo was again standing in the kitchen with his clipboard, taking notes again. Zhan felt uncomfortable about it as he had felt the day before, but said nothing and pretended not to notice Wang Yibo.

When he had finished preparing breakfast, he went to visit his two residents who must be in bed. He told the latest gossip from celebrities and sang the Sleeping Beauty song again. This time he would do everything as usual, except for one thing. He wouldn't be having breakfast at 9:00 with the other colleagues.

After Yibo told him yesterday that he could have breakfast at home and then have more time for the residents, he agreed with his superior and wanted to do it that way from now on. Zhan had even written to Zoey Meng that he will not eat at work now. She then wrote to him that he could do whatever he wanted, she would again do exactly what she had done before and would not have her breaks forbidden. And even when Zhan wrote her that he thinks Wang Yibo was right about the time for the residents, she wrote that she doesn't change anything.

Zhan had even written to his trainee that he should come at 9 am instead of 10 am.

But since Zhan, apart from the breaks, also wants to do everything as usual, he took care of the residents, he washed them, changed them, dressed them and took them to the kitchen for breakfast. Of course, all this would go faster if his colleagues, the caretakers, did not take so many smoking and coffee breaks. But he's gotten used to it in the meantime.

In the beginning he had often criticized this and had always addressed it during the meetings. But at some point, he just gave up. Because nobody was interested in what a simple social worker said. The work of the social workers was not as important as the work of the carers. That, at any rate, was explained to him right at the start, when the former social worker trained him. "It's best not to say anything, because it won't make any difference anyway." Had he said to Zhan. And Zhan soon realized how right he was.

Since it was raining outside today and therefore Zhan could not go outside with the residents, he gathered everyone after breakfast at the big handicraft table where they held a morning circle and colored Easter eggs. And making Easter nests.

"Why aren't you at breakfast?" Asked Wang Yibo when he came to see what Zhan and his group were doing.

"I've had breakfast at home and there's not much time left for Easter, so we' re doing crafts today in order to have everything ready when Easter comes." Explained to Zhan calmly.

Mina, everyone's favorite resident, showed Wang Yibo a few pieces of paper that she cut herself. She was so happy that her smile even affected Wang Yibo. He praised Mina and she laughed happily.

"Mina, darling, you did a wonderful job. It looks really great." Praised Zhan. And she threw him a kiss in the air.

"I like you. You're always sweet." Explained Mina and made Zhan smile. He liked the mentally and physically handicapped Mina from the very beginning and just because of her, he liked coming to work.

As Huang once again felt ignored, he began to become restless and shortly afterwards he screamed like crazy. Once again he went crazy and threatened Mina: "I'm gonna kill you, I'm gonna slit you up." He roared and tried to get to Mina with his wheelchair.

"Huang, you can choose. Either you're nice and cooperate here, or I'll take you to your room. There you can scream and threaten all you want." Said Zhan in a serious tone.

"I am good again. I promise, my friend! I won't say that anymore." Said Huang, but Zhan knew, it's only minutes until his next outburst.

And Zhan was right. It only took a few minutes for Huang to get out of control again, and very quickly Zhan knew he would not calm down again today. Sometimes Zhan knew this immediately when Huang had another day like this. And lately, Huang's episodes have become more and more frequent, which is why he often has to be sedated.

Zhan knew that once Huang was in this phase, no one could get him out. And then they could do nothing but sedate him with drugs. Because then he was not only a danger to himself, but also to others. As Zhan himself had to experience several times on his own body.

To prevent any worse, Zhan brought the raging and angry Huang to his room. Wang Yibo followed him, because as a trained caretaker he of course knew exactly what to do. But Zhan also Zhan learned in the past two years and wanted to handle the situation himself as usual.

Wang Yibo put away his clipboard and said, "You take his legs and I take his arms and then we will put him to bed together. He's too wobbly for the lift." Zhan nodded and did what his supervisor told him to do.

Through the cooperation of the two, they were able to put Huang to bed quickly. "This is going to get worse." Explained Zhan when Huang screamed more and more and beat and kicked around.

Wang Yibo told Zhan to wait a moment and ran to the duty room. When he came back, he had a sedative on him. "Where is the nurse?" He asked Zhan. Zhan said he would fetch her and immediately ran to the small room where the staff had breakfast. The nurse immediately jumped up and followed Zhan to give Huang the injection.

When Huang became calmer, Wang Yibo went to the small room. Zhan followed him because he wanted to know why his supervisor suddenly looked so aggressive and what he was up to now.

"You all heard that the resident went nuts, but none of you bothered to at least check it out. Why?" Wang Yibo asked furiously.

"Because Xiao Zhan has always managed to do it alone." One of the caretakers replied.

Wang Yibo hit the table with his fist and shouted, "This is your task and not Xiao Zhan's! You have been trained and schooled for this! So get your asses out there if you have to and don't leave it to a single person who just learned all this for himself!" Afterwards, Wang Yibo angrily left the room and stormed into his office.

Zhan on the other hand was insecure, had he done something wrong again? Zhan shook his head and told himself that this time he would not let his negative thoughts affect him and went back to the other residents to continue coloring the Easter eggs with them.

Undeterred, Zhan did his work for the day. After noon, when the residents were lying in their beds, he took care of the documents and filled them out conscientiously when Wang Yibo came to him in the small room. He put a bowl of rice and soup in front of Zhan and said, "I want you to eat this now. And please don't reject it."

Zhan was completely confused by this, but already put the files aside and started eating, even though he didn't really want to eat. And the whole time, Wang Yibo stayed with him and made sure that Zhan really eats everything. After that, he gave Zhan a fruit salad and said, "You have done your work well today. And you reacted quickly and well when the resident went crazy."

Zhan, who had his mouth full, just nodded. But he was also a bit proud that he was praised today by his new supervisor. Maybe he and Wang Yibo could eventually get a good working relationship.
