PRESENT
I got to my brother who then went to rent us a car, I begged him to pick something cool but argh, uguy went with a gti... Cabanga! We drove out of the airport then a while later he made a stop at Nandos in town on oxford street,
God this place hadn't changed at all.
"What do you want to eat?" my brother asked unbuckling his seatbelt
I shrugged "whatever you get is fine with me" I was still thinking about Lwando; he spoke to me like he didn't give a care in the world how his words would hit me.
Heh haike ngoku.
"Yola you still upset about the phone thing?" I just looked at him and didn't respond "you can call your friend's with mine, just don't finish my airtime" I still didn't respond. Yes, I was upset about my phone but I was also upset because of some stupid guy whom I just met a few minutes ago. "suit yourself" with that he walked out leaving his phone on the seat. It rang and it was our mother
"Amanda" I said sternly
"Ayola I'm your mother, respect me please"
"mother" I said sarcastically
She sighed "I was calling to ask if you guys travelled well?"
"we did, thank you"
"I tried calling you and I heard you forgot your phone in Durban"
"yeah I did and your son didn't want us to go back and fetch it... so I'm screwed" I said
"shame man, you'll be fine" she said
Haibo! No "I'll transfer you money to get something to use for the time being"?
"maybe you'll get to bond with mom and dad for a change" she said sounding sarcastic.
I swear to God this woman enjoys seeing me like this
"When are you coming this side?"
"I don't know yet baby, your father is still trying to close up this other deal" she said
That is code for 'Not anytime soon'
"so you not coming back for Christmas?"
"I didn't say that Yola" she defended
"you didn't have to say it Amanda. I understand perfectly, I just don't understand why we had to come here" I said before dropping the call. She called again and I let it ring. I don't even understand why those two have children if they only going to throw money at them all the damn time. I took the phone and dialled my best friend's number and she answered after a while
"Aphiwe is everything ok?" she asked sounding concerned
"hello to you too buddy"
She sighed with relief "honey I've been trying to reach you and when you didn't answer I panicked"
"the plane didn't crash that's for sure, I forgot my phone in Durban"
"damn. So your brother loaned you his?" she asked
"nah, he said I could call you though. I'm basically phoneless. Where are you anyway?"
"I'll borrow you my old one. I'm at Beacon Bay, still at the airport?"
"we at nandos, brother is buying us food and then we'll come there" I said
"great. See you in a bit. I'll wait at your grandparent's house" she said sounding excited
"awesome. Bye friend" I said ending the call, just then my bother opened the door and by the look of it he bought a family meal. "your mother has been calling"
