"What's going on here?" Caroline asked everyone as I wiped my tears, "Is everything ok?"
My mom moved away from me and sat down to my right.
Parker looked over at me and wrapped his arm around me.
"I think everyone should sit down." he spoke up, "There's something we need to tell you."
My dad, Dennis, and Caroline sat down on the couch across from us. I could tell they were nervous, anxious even. Most of all they were extremely confused.
The past forty-eight hours, everyone had been in such high spirits from celebrating Lydia and Darren. Then they had to come back to me crying on the couch.
"There's no easy way to say this and we both agreed to be transparent with you guys. I mean it's not bad news but it's not the news we wanted right now. Of course with rain comes rainbow-" Parker began to ramble
"Parker!" Caroline interrupted him, "Get to it."
It was something he always did when he got nervous.
He looked at me and then at everyone else, "We're expecting. Ellie is ten weeks pregnant."
Everyone's jaw dropped.
My dad turned the color of copy paper, Caroline had wide eyes but at least Dennis had a smile.
"Congrats!" Dennis broke the awkward silence, "Children are a blessing no matter if they were planned or not. At least Parker is financially stable and Elizabeth you're close to getting your degree."
"So close." my dad spoke, "Pey, you had so many plans. Your whole life you've had big plans and big dreams. All that went down the drain to be a mom at twenty-one."
Yes, please rub it in my face.
"Dad, I know! We didn't plan for this to happen." I teared up again, "Believe me, we've thought about all of our options."
"Peyton you have to understand that while you had goals for yourself, we also had goals for you. We're always going to be there for you but we'd be lying if we said we weren't a little disappointed." my mom clarified
Parker rubbed my arm, he could tell when I was getting worked up.
"With all due respect, Mr. and Mrs. Keller, all of the hard work Ellie has done isn't going down the drain. She's beautiful, incredibly intelligent, and hardworking and I'm sure we all know that. This is an unexpected bump in the road but we're going to work together to achieve our goals. I never intended for Ellie to depend on me or be a stay at home mom. Unless she ever wants to but I know she doesn't. I know she has goals and I respect that. I'm going to do whatever I can to make sure she achieves those while being great parents." Parker spoke from the bottom of his heart
Even when shit didn't make sense, he always did.
It reminded me why I fell for him in the first place.
Caroline put her hands together, "I know you two will be great. We're always here for the both of you."
"Caroline, we respect you but that's easy for you to say when you had nannies for your children from the moment you popped them out." my dad spoke up
Oh god.
"Well, I'm sure Ximena isn't very busy these days." Caroline defended, "We can get Peyton a nanny."
"I don't want a nanny." I shot down
"Maybe you should consider it so you can reach your goals." my mom suggested
My jaw dropped, "Mom, my goals are not that important to the point that I don't wanna raise my child. This was a mistake but I'm not going to act like it's not happening. All I need is a few months after it's born and I can start working again."
