Chapter 22: Talk about the Letter

I see a head of red hair walking towards me and I stand up from the curb. Tani walks up to me and gives me a hug.

I smile at her. "Come on" I say and pull her away from my house. "Aren't we going inside?" she asks and I laugh and shake my head.

"No" I say "My mother will have a heart attack if she saw you. She doesn't even like to look at me if I don't have my wig or contacts in".

"Huh?" she raises an eyebrow at me. "Come on. I'll tell you when we walk" I say.

We sit on the swing at the park where I usually meet the others on a Saturday.

"So?" Tani asks "They don't accept you". I nod and she shakes her head. "My parents have" she says and looks away.

"What about this letter?" I asks trying to defuse the tension. "What about it?" she asks and I smile. "In 2 weeks you and I are flying to Florida to meet this Dr" I say and her jaw drops.

"I booked flights when I was waiting for you" I say. "How'd you pay for it?" she asks and raises an eyebrow at me.

I throw my head back and laugh. "I have access to my parents credit cards". She gasps and it makes me laugh even harder.

"So" I say when I've finally calmed down. "You can turn into a shark?". She smiles. "Only parts" she says "Like. The letter said I'll be able to change my legs into a shark fin one time and then my head the other" she adds and smiles.

"So you're kinda like a mermaid" I say and she laughs. "Kinda". "I'm a werewolf and my best friend Andy is insanely jealous" I say and she laughs again.

I pull out my phone and check the time. It's quarter to six. "We better get going" I say. "Meet me out the front of my house at 10:00 am in two weeks". She nods and then I give her a hug goodbye before leaving.

I walk inside and my mother storms out of the kitchen. She has a rolling pin in her hand. "WHERE THE HELL HAVE YOU BEEN?" she screams and raises the rolling pin.

"I was talking to Tanika about a man called Dr Graden who sent us both a letter on our 16th birthday" I say and the rolling pin, along with her jaw, drops to the ground.

"I'm flying to Florida to see him with her in two weeks" I say and my mother doesn't say a thing. I push past her and head upstairs to my room.

I open the door and see my sister in there on my iPod texting someone. "GET THE FUCK OUT OF MY ROOM!" I screech and she throws my iPod down and dashes out if the room.

I shut the door and lock it. I then head into my ènsuite and open the doors. All of my presents are still in tact.

I walk over to my bed and pick up my iPod. She was texting Eden.

Me: Eden. We need to talk.

Eden 💘: What's up baby.

Me: I think we should break up

Eden 💘: What? Why?

Me: Because you're too good for me and you should date Madi. She really likes you.

Eden 💘: Babe. I love you ok? I love you with all my heart please don't do this.

I must have walked in then because that where the conversation stops. I text him back on my phone.

Me: You love me?

Eden 💘: Yes I love you. I've loved you since the day you walked into my house in third grade and I love you still.

Me: I love you too.

Eden 💘: Then what was all that about wanting to break up?

Me: I was out with Tani and my sister got into my room. She was the one texting u not me.

Eden 💘: That explains the whole "you should go out with Madi' thing.

Me: Yeah. Hey go onto the group chat u need to tell you all something.

Eden 💘: Ok

I exit my conversation with him and enter the group chat.

Me: YALL GOTTA LISTEN UP! I HAVE NEWS!

Andrea 💀: Eden if you've gotten her pregnant I'm gonna fucking kill u.

Me: WHAT THE FUCK ANDY????

Andrea 💀: Whaaaat? It's a possibility.

Me: No. I'm going to Florida in two weeks to meet Dr Graden.

Elinor 🎀: Aahhhh. So the letter was real.

Me: Yup!

Ty 🌚: Cool.

Newt 👎: Oh thank god! Then I won't have to put up with you.

Olive 📖: STFU NEWT! THIS IS A BIG OPPORTUNITY FOR HER!!!

Me: Thank you Olive. I've got to go guys.

Eden 💘: Bye!

I turn my phone off and lie down on my bed thinking of the future.
