The next week was filled with homecoming planning and the chaos that accompanied it. My mom volunteered our house for pictures, why? I couldn't tell you. After we would go to dinner then the dance. What comes after the dance is what takes the most planning. After the dance, this kid Charles always has a huge party at his massive mansion. He has such a beautiful house. This year, we have a four day weekend homecoming weekend. Meaning, no school Monday or Tuesday, so Sunday and Monday are like other Saturdays. Emily invited our whole homecoming group to her beach house after homecoming. We would leave Sunday morning and come home Tuesday. My parents finally trust me enough to let me know, and have faith that I'll make 'good decisions'. Saturday morning Sophie, Emily, and I went to the salon to get out hair, nails, and makeup done. We had to make these appointments months in advance because every high school girl would snatch them if we didn't.

I picked both of them up and we headed to the nail salon in a little square close to Emily's house.  She lives in a bit of a wealthier district, and between you and me, it's snobbier.  We entered through the glass door after parking and of course, a sight we didn't want to see was in there.

"Look what the cat dragged in," she said. It was Jessica Roy and her mindless minions, each getting their toenails painting while reading the latest Teen Vogue.  "Oh Nicki, if I'd known you were coming I would've rescheduled."

"Jessica, always nice to see you," I sighed, placing my bag down at the counter and quickly giving my name to the woman at the desk.  The three of us were taken to get our fingers done first, at my request to be far away from the Jessica's.  I picked out a silver polish for my fingers and toes, but asked if she could do some sort of blue design on some of my fingers to match the dress.

"I can't believe her," Emily complained.  "You have never done anything to her and she always gives you crap."  It was sort of true, I guess.  Jessica and I have known each other since sixth grade.  When we had art class together and were seated next to each other, we became best friends.  Even though we had just met, we had fun with each other.  She would occasionally come over to my house or go out to eat with my friends and I.  I told her all of my secrets, which was a huge mistake.  At the time, I had the biggest crush on this guy named Adam.  He was my first real crush, and made me so nervous every time he walked past.

I liked him for all of middle school, and Jessica knew that all the way up to eighth grade when we began hanging out with his friend group.  Being the typical middle schoolers that we were, we decided to play Truth or Dare.  I reluctantly said yes since I wasn't a huge fan of party games, but I thought it could be fun.

"Nicki, truth or dare?" Jess asked me.

"Um...Dare." I said.

"I dare you to go in a room with Adam for 5 minutes and show him how you feel about him," she smiled evilly, looking between the two of us.  I looked over at Adam, who was a little embarrassed.  I stood up and he soon did after me, following me into the bathroom.  So romantic, right?  But I closed the toilet lid and sat down while he leaned on the counter next to me.

"So..." He started.

"I don't know why Jessica did that.  I mean I've liked you for a while, and I'm not going to pretend that isn't true, but it still wasn't her right to do that," I ranted.

"Hey, Nicole.  It's okay," he started.  He looked me in the eyes and I realized why I had this unrealistic crush on him in the first place.  I leaned in to kiss him but he got up sharply.  "I... I think you got the wrong idea. I don't like you like that." He opened the door and then left the bathroom, leaving me to sit alone.  I sat in the room for a while before I finally left.  I wish I never did though, because I saw Jessica kissing Adam when I did.  I said nothing to her, just stormed upstairs and out the door.  Not knowing what to do, I called my mom and she picked me up.  I made up some excuse about how I got left out of their plans because I was too embarrassed.

So Jessica and I have never been friends since she took Adam from me.  I looked at her laughing with her friends from across the room.

"Yeah, Em. Some people just never change," I sighed.  My phone lit up with a message from Shawn, but I couldn't open it because of my fingernails.  Every text from him was important to me, so I asked the lady doing my nails to open it quickly.

"He says, 'hey babe, what color tie do I need? also I miss you.'  Is that your boyfriend?" She read and then asked.  I laughed.

"Yeah, he is.  Could you tell him he needs a light blue tie? Just in case he needs to know as soon as possible," I asked her.  She smiled and replied before returning to my nails.  She asked some more questions about Shawn, which I didn't mind answering since he is my boyfriend and the news was already out anyway.  I told her about his songs on iTunes, the way he asked me to homecoming, and my friends added how handsome and talented he is.

"Let's see how long a guy like Shawn lasts with a charity case like you," Jessica remarked, standing right beside me on her way out.  She held her purse on her left arm and wore flip flops to protect her toe nails.

"Bye Jessica," I simply replied. I hate drama. It can be so easily avoided so that's what I do.  She scoffed and strutted out, her minions following behind.

Once our nails and toe nails were polished, we left and drove back to my house.  We watched Youtube videos and interviews that Shawn had done.  They told me everything I didn't even need to know about my own boyfriend but I didn't mind.  I got to see his face on the screen and that was enjoyable enough for me.  There was a knock at the door during his cover of Drunk and I volunteered to get it.  It was Shawn and he had his hands full of ties.  He looked past me into the family room and saw Emily and Sophia listening to his cover.

"Well," he laughed.  I grabbed his arm and pulled him inside.  "No! I refuse to listen to myself Nick," he pleaded, leaning away from my pull.

"Can you sing for them? Just a song," I asked him.  He shook his head but I put my hand on his cheek and looked at him. He wouldn't last long under my stare. "They're your friends now, but they're also huge fans. C'mon Shawnyyyy..." I begged him.

"I hate how convincing you are," he said, frustrated.  I handed him the guitar, which was now basically reserved for him.  He started playing Drunk by Ed Sheeran since that was the video my friends were listening to.  As he sang it, my friends were secretly taking snapchat stories and vines of Shawn, which he probably noticed.  He always looked to me as he sang and smiled, even when he was performing to more than just me.  When he finished, I kissed him quickly and pulled him up to my room.  I wasnt going to show him my dress, but I told him I wanted the perfect tie.  I grabbed the options from his hands and compared them to the dress, which was pretty much hidden by the other clothes in his closet.

"This one is perfect," I said.  I held it up to him and he nodded.

"Whatever you say," he smiled and put a hand on my waist.  He pulled me closer to him and placed his lips on mine, his hands rubbing up and down my back.  I would never get tired of kissing him, but I did have company downstairs.  I ended the kiss and walked downstairs.

"Get some, Nick," Sophie whisper-yelled to me but Shawn obviously heard it. He shook his hand and kissed my cheek before walking out the front door.

"I can't wait for homecoming," I admitted, sitting in between my friends.  "Shawn is perfect."

He really was. I could not find a single flaw in his system.  It's scary.  What if he's a robot? Or has another girlfriend back in Canada?  I decided not to let doubt flood my system and just accepted the fact that Shawn and I were together now and we both intend for things to stay this way.  He was my 11:11 a month ago and he still is today.

We will just have to see where things go.
