“Will you teach me how to play?” I asked Shawn after a significant amount of time just relaxing in his arms. Truly, I really did want to learn how to play the guitar. And since Shawn taught himself, maybe he’d be a good teacher to me, as well.
“Sure, baby,” he said. I grabbed the guitar and put it on my lap. He removed his arms from around my waist and put one on top of my left hand. He placed my fingers on the strings, forming a certain chord. “That’s an E major,” he told me and I strummed the chord. It wasn’t perfect but it sounded somewhat musical. This process went on for a little bit, where he would show me a chord and I would strum it. To be honest, it was hard to remember and not an easy instrument to play, but it was one of the movie moments where the guitar player teaches his girlfriend just to be close to her.
He reviewed each one, and taught me the chords to Life of the Party, since he out of anyone in the world would know them the best. God, I sounded awful, but he thought it was the most beautiful sound in the world. After about 20 minutes of teaching me the song, he let me try it on my own. As I strummed the chords, I paused awkwardly every time I needed to shift the position of my fingers. Once I was about halfway through the chorus, I felt Shawn’s eyes on my face instead of my hands. He moved my hair and gently started kissing my neck as I played. There was nothing lustful or sexual about it, either, it was just really sweet.
Soon, we began packing everything up and hopped back onto the golf cart. This time, as Shawn drove, I laid across the long seat and put my head on his leg as he drove. I played with the strings of his sweatshirt and watched the scenery go past. When I saw that we were in the garage, I lifted my head up and got off of the cart. I grabbed the blanket and basket, while Shawn took his guitar inside. We opened the door to find the TV on and everyone lying on the couch. Emily and Colin were cuddling, basically only paying attention to each other. Everyone else was watching Vines or on Twitter or something like that.
"Can we go to the beach?" Sophie asked, laying across the sofa. Everyone agreed so I headed over to the room I shared with Sophie, to change. I put on a super cute, simple, black bikini with gold accents. I put on high waisted jeans shorts and a light blue cropped tank over my swimsuit. Everyone grabbed snacks and drinks for the night and I decided that I didn't want to just lay around in the sand the whole time.
I got on a golf cart with Emily, Talia, and Sophie and put the keys in the ignition. Colin was driving his cart with Shawn, Logan, and Jackson. Colin looked at me and winked before speeding away. Looks like he is looking for a challenge. The girls cheered me on as I sped forward, catching up to the boy's cart. They didn't realize we were so close behind until Logan turned around and pressured Colin to go even faster. We got to the beach and sadly, we lost, but a teenage girl driving a golf cart full of other flimsy teenage girls isn't exactly a match made in heaven. Colin came over to me and wrapped his arms in a bear hug around me. He rubbed his knuckle on my head and squeezed me even harder.
"Better luck next time, Nick," he joked. I seriously couldn't even breathe, but luckily he let me go. Almost instantaneously, Shawn came over and wrapped his arm around my waist, seeming a little bit tense. I turned towards him and saw his jaw was clenched and his hand was in a tight fist. I kissed his cheek reassuringly.
"Don't worry, Mendes, I only have eyes for you," I told him honestly. I could tell he loosened up when I said this, but it was still really cute that he was getting all jealous.
Everyone was splitting into teams when Shawn and I caught up to the group. Judging by the volleyball in Logan's hand, everyone was going to be participating in a friendly competition soon. Shawn was great at volleyball, and I knew I'd win if I was on his team. But hey, it would be a heck of a lot of fun playing against him.
