The bell rang for passing period and I weaved my way through the traffic in the hallways.  2.2 million followers, how does that even happen?  I was scrolling through his photos, not even looking up from my phone, when I ran straight into someone's chest.

"Oh my gosh, I'm so sor-" I began, but of course, it turned out to be Shawn.

"Whatcha lookin' at there, Nicole?" He asked, turning his head to look at what was on my phone, confused. I wondered why he had such a strange look on his face, until I looked down and realized that I forgot to close out of my stalking session on this new kid's Twitter.

"You may have forgotten to mention you have 2 million followers on Twitter." I chuckled and clicked the lock button on my phone, my cheeks turning red in the process.

"It's not exactly the thing you bring up in a conversation with someone you just met. 'I'm Shawn Mendes. I have 2 million followers on Twitter and 3.4 million on Vine. I'm kind of a big deal.'  Especially when they just ran you over with their car.." He smiled and rubbed the back of his neck.  Meanwhile, I was shocked at the numbers of followers on his social media.

"No wonder everyone has been saying hi to your who you've never even met.. It makes so much sense now!" I felt so embarrassed to have had full-on conversations with a guy without even realizing who he was.

Class started and Shawn was sitting in the desk next to mine, which was otherwise surrounded by girls swooning over him.  One of them put her hand on his arm as she obnoxiously laughed at something he said, which probably wasn't even that funny.  Once the teacher began lecturing, Shawn respectfully nudged the girl's hand off of his upper arm.  He looked at me and sighed, smiling sympathetically as he realized that these fans had stopped his conversation with me.

The class period consisted of me writing down meaningless information about whatever topic we were studying.  All I could think about was Shawn, sitting next to me with his millions of followers and aspiring girlfriends.  All those girls probably like him for his fame. I bet you that they all just want to be friends with him because he has more followers on social media, than people I would ever meet in my lifetime. I found it comforting that I knew and I liked him before knowing who he was. WAIT no I don't like him like that, I mean I do but as a friend, but he's really cute, and he's been sweet so far, wait what am I saying stop Nicole, you barely know him, you can't be falling for him. I focused back to taking notes on an useless trigonometry topic.

"How are you used to all of this?" I asked him as we walked to third period together. "The fans, the followers. Your Twitter must break, like, all the time."

"I'm not used to it. I have to admit, when you hit me with your car and didn't know who I was, I was confused. But it was really refreshing." He smiled again as he glanced over to me. I could look at him smiling all day, it lit up the room and made me realize why he has millions of girls following him around constantly.

The rest of the day flew by, with Shawn and I walking to class together when we could, followed by a couple of girls but nothing too bad.

I offered him a ride home after tenth period, which I figured I kind of owed him because of the collision earlier, and he happily accepted.  We got in the car and I turned on the radio BEFORE I began driving.  It wasn't a song I knew, but I was really liking it. Shawn was tapping his foot to the song in the passenger seat and smirked as he sang along, knowing basically every word.

"You like this song?" I wondered.

"You could say that, I guess" he laughed.

"What's it called? And who is it by? I actually really like it!"

"Life of the Party, and uh," he paused and scratched his forehead before saying "it's my song."

I pulled the car into his driveway next door and just looked at him. He has a song on the radio? On my favorite station?  How have I never heard of Shawn before?

"You're insane," I admitted to him. "I don't even think you're a real person.  Millions of followers, a song on the radio on a station that everyone listens to, and your choice of any girl you could ever want... I mean, that's your average reality"

He put his backpack on as he stepped out of my car and just looked at me.

"I'm glad you hit me with your car today." He simply stated before shutting the car door and jogging up to his front door.

I drove into my driveway, content with the events of today, and picked up my phone from the

cup holder. I had a ton of notifications from Twitter.  I was confused until I found that Shawn had not only followed me, but he also tweeted at me. "@nicole_murphy may be the world's worst driver(;"

I smiled and replied, "@ShawnMendes maybe you shouldn't hang out behind my car(:" before locking my car and going inside.

My neighbor is Shawn Mendes.

And he is happy I hit him with my car.
