Soldiers, generals, welders of weaponry were no longer needed after the Elders decided go into hiding. They disassembled all of their military forces, telling their soldiers to either accept a new assignment or return home.

However, Kai was still valuable to them, which is why they gave her a specific assignment. She was given the permanent position of guarding the Pink Dolphin sanctuary. It was near a small, unoccupied island so Kai did not have to worry about being seen. Or so she thought. This type of dolphin was endangered which is why their home needed protection. Here dolphins could go through labor and nurse their young peace. The amimals were not obligated to stay; rather it was allowed for them to come and go whenever they liked.

Sometimes while Kai was on guard she would notice cargo ships carrying things to and from nations nearing the sanctuary. She would sing a song that distracted the captains to go off course. Just enough, in order to protect the dolphin sanctuary. This wasn't unusual, this was routine. In fact this was a technique taught to her in the academy. It was this routine, and consequences of this musical hobby that begins our story...

When the mermaids sang, they sometimes hypnotized the captains for too long. This caused the ships to sometimes crash. The mermaids of course we're not aware of the effects of their singing.

There was a small outlet tunnel to get to an accessible part of the island bay. Kai would swim through this small tunnel to the shallow pool on the bay. She would then swing herself on to a rock facing the ocean, from her tiny pool. Kai could jump from one pool to another with ease.

And at a certain time, the young Dolphins would nap. Kai would sit on the rock above the sanctuary and sing to calm the nursing dolphins. Little did she know that someone was listening to her, a human. This young man was the son of a Emperor, who had maiden after maiden fall for him. But never did he hear such a lovely voice. Her silky words echoed against rocks, across the waves of the sea, reaching the balcony of the prince. And everyday the prince would sit on his balcony and listen to her song.

One day a dolphin asked "Kai, how do you sing so? Is it magic? "

Kai smiled and replied "Mother dolphin, you know as well as I do that magic is not real. Mer people have powers, gifts from above, so advanced they seem magical."

In time the prince became curious.
Who sang each day to the waves? Where was it coming from?

He asked the servants if they knew where the song was coming from. None of them knew what he was talking about. It seemed only he could hear the voice... Out of curiosity he followed the echoing voice, alone, by rowboat. It lead him to the small island, not visible from his balcony, on the horizon. Blocking the sanctuary on the shore was an altidunious willow tree. There the prince hid until the mysterious singer appeared.

When Kai jumped on the rock and began to sing the young prince could not believe his eyes. For there sits the girl of his dreams. Who she is or whence she came he was unsure, nor did he care. Kai was the most beautiful girl, or so he thought, he had ever seen.

She had long, wavey, raven black hair and copper colored skin. Kai was thin but she was, in a very delicate and elegant way, muscular. Her form was due to her intense training. Kai's most striking feature was her eyes, a purplish violate, that matched her tail. Its exotic colors faded into lighter shades going inward. But the prince didn't see this... Only her back profile. He slowly crept near the rock.

"My lady?" he spoke softly.

Kai turned around and saw the human. A look of horror spread across her face. She grabbed her dagger (a stingray blade tied with seaweed to a light stone) and dived into the water.

The mermaid knew that she could not abandon her post. And she knew she could not risk the safety the dolphins. So she was ready to defend herself and the ocean.

This was her first time seeing a human in a couple thousand years. Little did she know that her encounter was more than fate... it was prophecy.

○BTW when she fights she gets claws and fangs - triggered on instinct
▪When she is not fighting she is more human and less of a scarier mermaid... the fangs and claws just seep back into her...kind of like Wolverine
