"Wonderful..." Edmond said breathlessly, "You're vioce it's... wonderful." He was next to Kai now. It was evening. The sun was setting but the moon was rising. They had a perfect view of both. The prince then noticed the way the moonlight played with the reflectetion of Kai's hair. It truly brought out its pure raven color, reflecting off a navy blue glow. Even her voluminous eye lashes looked darker.

He hasn't realized how long he had spent just talking to her.  Hours had passed!

When was the last time I spent hours with a woman, just talking? Edmond thought.

"Thank you," Kai replied shyly, "you're not so bad either..."

She felt her heart hammer against her chest. The way he looked at her now, not like prey, but as if he knew her. Like he knew all her deepest thoughts and desires.

No one has ever looked at me like that before... and he is observing me. Why is he looking at me like that?

"The song your mother sang to you and your father. It is from the sea. It is what maidens sing as ships set off. I'm surprised she knew of it."

Although the mermaid looked away, she noticed how close he was to her. So terribly near to her, that she could feel his body heat. As I watched him closely and saw how well carved his features were. He reminded her of a stone statue. As if he were one of the many that had fallen into the sea, after the fall of many civilizations and shipwrecks. As if he had crashed into the ocean of destiny and was saved by a dark siren; A hurting sea monster that didn't realize how broken she was until the statue held out a heart in its hands... Hoping to fill the black pit in her soul.

Oh Luna what is wrong with me?

They sat there for a moment taking in the sudden, subtle silence.

"Kai," the prince said, breaking the silence "have you bandage your shoulder?"

Kai was surprised he remembered she was injured. She glanced at her shoulder, it was still pretty bad. And the seaweed wasn't working as we'll anymore, now stained with blood.

"No..." Kai replied, "Why?"

"Well, I brought some medical supplies and-"

He planned this?

"You are aware that I'm always under water right?"

"Yes, I'm prepared. Its waterproof."

"And you have done this before? Don't you have pretty nurses who do this for you?"

The prince smirked and said "Of course! But as a noble and galient warrior like myself, I must know how to treat wounds."

"Very well, you may begin."

Kai turned around so Edmond could bandage her shoulder. She gathered all her long hair and put it on her opposite shoulder. The prince took out the bandages, gauze, and elixirs. His dark eyes raked over her bare back as he removed the piece of seaweed and examined the wound. The eel left a horrible scar on her. It wasn't even a scare really, it hadn't healed yet. It was ripped deep through her skin, still red and irritated. It definitely would leave a scar though. Edmond was surprised Kai wasn't in more pain.

It's a shame
the prince thought
such a lovely creature.

Edmond was about to start cleaning the wound when it occurred to him that this wasn't himself, or one of his men, or another woman he was aiding. This was a mermaid... Her structure was different. Edmond examined her frame while getting his equipment ready. Kai was sturdy and hard. Definitely able to fight something much bigger and stronger than she was. But despite her fierce build she was delicate, as if she was designed not only to defend but to enchant with elegance. He felt pity for her, as he watched blood stain her.
