Edmond immediately went to her and lifted her up in his arms, saying "Are you all right!?"

The sea continued to misbehave, tossing the boat in any direction it desired.

Kai winced, caressing her shoulder, she said "The stiches, they ripped. There are metal pieces holding them, staples because...the flesh was so damaged...If they tear any more they could stab my heart..."

Were the arrows that close? It grazed her heart! Why would they use bloody metal stiches?! Edmond wondered.

" I see, I'm rowing back sit tight! Try not to move, yes?" Edmond placed Kai in her seat. "Here sit and-"

"Edmond, start rowing." Kai said calmly

"Alright."

Edmond began rowing quickly but the ocean became intensely thick. Kai was panting now. Minutes passed like hours. It seemed to drag on forever. The rain pouring over them didn't help either.

"Edmond," she said "Edmond I can't. It hurts so much I-

"Listen to me love," Edmond said still rowing. "Listen, we are going to make it. And we are going to have the nurses help you. And you will be fine. Once your better we will look at the moon-"

"Edmond-"

"And sing-"

"Edmond stop-"

The storm winds hurled waves and heavy rain.

"-have breakfast and watch the sunrise-"

"Edmond STOP!" Kai yelled

Thunder boomed.

Edmond froze and the boat came to a hault.

"Stop talking and row. Row like mad! I will do my best to make our path straight with my water bending."

The prince began rowing again. Kai lifted her arms and pushed the violent waves from their path as much as she could. But the mermaid could feel herself weakening and the storm became more wild. The mermaid was losing control of the waves, making it more difficult for Edmond to get them back to the palace.

Luna, are you displeased with me and my love? Kai asked, feeling pain in her chest. Are you punishing me?

The two of them were soaked and exhausted. Kai turned to the human and saw his muscles strain as he pulled back on the oars. His shirt clung to his body, his hair to his forehead. Kai was sweating despite the icy water pouring down in bullets. Both of them were panting and fighting for their lives against mother nature. It had been hours. And the mermaid knew what was to come. So she dropped her arms. The waves roared in victory.

I am not fighting against the ocean. I'm fighting against Luna... what do you want from me? If you loved me you would have saved me. Why let me end here? After all the battles I've been through...

"Do not give up. I know you can do it. We have to keep going!"

His voice gave her insight.
My destiny... is him.
Edmond's life is entwined with my fate.

"Edmond, we're not going to make it. And you know it." Kai said weakly, clutching her arm. "We are too far."

"No we are not."

"Yes, we are."

I have to save him. She thought.

"Kai-" Edmond growled.
