The trumpets sounded. Emperor Caesar had finally arrived home. The grand palace gate and door had opened. Advisors and servants immeadiatly bombarded him with questions of the meet with Kai and of the negotiations. Ceasar became annoyed, he didn't have time for this. He must see Edmond.
"Silence!" Caesar boomed "Where is my son?"
"On the balcony, your grace."
"Thank you."
Caesar went to the balcony, the highest point of the palace and found Edmond. He was sitting on the edge of railing, singing:
"... now and forever
I won't leave you ever-"
Edmond never practices or writes music...
The Emperor raised an eyebrow.
His son scribbeled down notes onto what looked to be a music score. Caesar smiled at his son's thoughtfulness. Edmonds father cleared his throat to get his attention.
"Father!" Edmond exclaimed. He hopped of the rail and onto the balcony. Edmond caught himself getting overly excited and calmed himself quickly. This was rather awkward for both of them.
The prince said, "Did you meet Kai?"
"Yes."
"Are we meeting with the mermaids?"
"Yes."
"Is she well?"
"Yes."
"Good..."
But Caesar could tell his son was egar to know more. It seemed to be eating him up on the inside.
"Son I can see why you like her. She's beautiful, and kind. We will meet with Kai's people at noon, in 3 days time. Its likely she will be there so I suggest you-"
But before Caesar could finish Edmond was already out the door. He ordered his servants to lay out his best clothes, shine his shoes and sharpen his sword.
" Edmond!" Caesar called "It's disrespectful to walk away from your father and king when he is adressing you. I did not finish."
Edmond stopped in his tracks and spun around. Caesar could tell he would not be able to hold his son's attention much longer. He had to be brief.
"This Kai is a good and strong woman, son. She is the kind you keep and cherish forever. Not the type to use and throw away. Please, be careful with her. Be good to her." Caesar advised.
Edmond grinned at his father and nodded. He resumed giving orders to the servants. He wanted to look presentable to Kai's people.
Caesar shook his head and said quietly, "Your mother would be proud..."
