The prince was waiting for Kai. Agian.
"Prince Edmond, I hope you know that the only reason you are still alive right now is because you are of royal blood..."
"It's been nearly two seasons since we first met, Kai. You do not have to adress me with my full title."
" I would have drowned you by now, Prince Edmond."
"Why I am honored you have spared me." He replied. "But my lady?"
"I'm not your lady. What?"
"How did you know that I have had multiple courtships?"
"Word gets around when a man starts trouble in the human world. We mostly get it from cranes, seagulls, and other animals that live near humans. Now enough talk. I have the book. Read."
Prince Edmond had been reading aloud to Kai for what seemed to be ages. It's been a full year and a few months. They were almost finished with the book. They would have been done sooner if they had not been bickering. Edmond would say something provocative. Kai would get mad. He would fuel her fire. She would eventually take out her knife.
His literacy ment she would spare his life. Edmond was still unsure of why she would spare him over something so simple. But he did not question it.
"Um ...why are the dolphins swimming frantically around their young?..." He said, looking behind her.
"What?" Kai said confused, turning around, "Great Luna! "
She dove into the water. A gigantic Oarfish was circling around the dolphin sanctuary; it was hungry.
Just when I was going to hear the ending! She frowned.
"Kai! Help!" The dolphins cried.
Kai charged toward the oar fish's head, bashing it eyes and jaw over and over. The oarfish fought back rapping it's long 8 fathom, serpent like tail around Kai trying to strangle her. Kai then took in water through her mouth and spat it out boiling hot in the oarfish's face. The oarfish shrieked and realesed Kai. The mermaid grabbed her stingray blade and used it to pin the oar fish's tail to the bottom of a large boulder under the water. With the oar fish in one spot she jabbed it continuously. The oarfish found it self at a good angle and bit Kai, in the shoulder.
The Marine War came to her mind again. The red color and the pain. It made Kai feel nauseous.
The once great blue turned red all around her. The water felt unusually thick and stale, like blood. Kai screamed a ghostly scream and backed away quickly. She was bleeding but so was the oarfish. And it was still pinned to the boulder. She felt the pounding vibration of her heart in her ears. Kai swam to a nerby patch of seaweed and grabbed a thick leaf. She wrapped it around her shoulder to stop the gushing blood.
Edmond was watching her from above, shocked at her incredible tactics.
What move was that? How is her hair not getting in her way? It just flows around her...pefectly. If all mermaids can fight like this, we have a problem... Wait should I assist her? Edmond then smirked to himself. No I think I'll just enjoy the view.
Meanwhile, Kai was at war with a beast.
Ready for round two Kai charged toward the oarfish with incredible speed releasing a sonic scream. The oarfish rocked it's head back and forth, the noise was making it weaker. It was also deadly. Kai struck the oarfish with her tail. Slapping it continously while screaming sonic sound.
She imagined fighting a human, just like she did in the war. They were all around her and showed no mercy. They cornered her. They tried to kill her. They tried to do much worse and violate her.
Kai pictured herself in that boat again, in the net, ropes around her. He rubbed her back. The other played with her tail. One touched her hair. Someone slid a hand down her side. Another reaches for her scale covered bossom. She became frightened and furious and screamed sonic sound. Kai killed each and every one of the men on board. They didn't win.
Darkness filled Kai's soul and she became enraged.
Kai then delivered the final blow. While the oarfish was weak she opened its mouth and released a single poisonous bubble from her hand. Kai forcefully shut the jaw and hugged it closed tightly. She felt the oarfish vibrate and trying to break free from her grip. The oarfish kept bashing her against the rock with it's head. It hurt like the devil and Kai thought she might have broken something (although she didn't). She wouldn't let go. It felt like forever until the bubble ignited with the acid in the oar fish's stomach, like a bomb, and killed it from the inside.
Kai let go of the beast in relief. She floated there for a moment feeling guilty she had to kill a fellow sea creature.
I'm sorry brother... I was told to gaurd no matter the cost. They are an endangered species and needed help...forgive me.
After a while Kai slowly swam over to the end of the tail and unpinned the beast from the boulder. The serpent began sinking to the ocean floor, but Kai grabbed it's upper body a dragged it to the surface where the prince was waiting. He helped her get all of its body on land.
Prince Edmond was quiet as he dragged the oarfish on land, surley horrifed by what he just saw. He didn't reliezed how good of a fighter Kai, Mermaids in general really were.
My father doesn't know what he is up against. Edmond thought.
If he wanted to kill me, he would do it now. I'm tired, weak, and injured. I must take precautions...Kai thought. But the prince didn't do anything. He looked at the oarfish, then at Kai, then at the fish agian.
"I was right behind you the whole time in case you needed help." Edmond chirped. "They really should give you a raise...and I'm gonna try not to make you angry..."
Giving him a dirty look Kai replied "Well I believe I found dinner for your people."
"No, no, no." The prince replied. "You fought it you eat it, I insist."
"Don't act like you don't want it. Take it."
"Kai don't be ridiculous. Being a gentleman sometimes means sacrificing meat. And it is very difficult. So please make this easier for the both of us and-"
"Edmond, just take the stupid serpent." Kai inturupted, no longer caring to hear his babble.
The prince smiled, for that was the first time she used his name. Without the title.
"I'll tell you what, we will split the beast. Heads or tails my mer-maiden?"
Kai smiled and shook her head, "Tails."
"Very well,"the prince replied. He took her knife and began cutting the beast. But once again he became very quiet...
"Kai... would you be interested in..." Edmond hesitated, "Dining with me?"
