Silence followed Hazel's words. Jasper was shocked, as he stared at the girl who had tears gently falling from her eyes.
"A vampire?" Letting out a breath, he moved toward Hazel.
"Yes, in fact I watched as the vampire sucked all the blood from his body, leaving him a lifeless husk." Hazel sighed, leaning into Jasper's chilling chest.
"I see... But why did they leave you alive? Most vampires would've killed any witnesses to keep from incurring the wrath of the Volturi." Whispering, he carefully wrapped an arm around Hazel. A strange warmth came from the boy as he allowed her tears to fall onto his chest.
"The vampire approached me, and wiped the blood from his mouth. He very well may have intended to kill me. But he changed his mind, a wicked smile crossed his face. The words he left me with...
"He said that he wanted me to live with memory of my dying father. The memory of him calling out for me to run as I stood there, too terrfied to look away." Hazel cried out, the memories of the terrifying night overcoming her mind.
"Haze, do you want to stop by that new pizza place after your game?" A tall man with sandy blonde hair smiled, patting Hazel's head.
"Yeah dad, that'll be fun. But you just wanna visit the new pizza place because you don't want to make dinner." Laughing, Hazel pushed her father's hand from her head, instead hugging his side. "Is mom gonna come to my game?"
"Sorry Pip, you're mom is working over time again, she'll miss this game too." Hazel's father called her 'Pip' for longer than she could remember. She was told that he called her that because when she was little, when she got mad she'd make a noise that sound like she was repeatedly saying 'pip'.
Hazel sighed, nodding as she picked up her gym bag. "Let's go then. I don't wanna be late." They made their way outside and got in her father's mustang.
As they drove along, Hazel noticed her father becoming more and more nervous. Before she could ask him what was wrong, something slammed into the car and Hazel screamed. A hand wrenched her father from the Mustang, and he cried out.
Groaning, Hazel pulled herself from the wrecked car. Thankfully she wasn't bleeding. As her eyes adjusted to the sudden change of light, they widened in horror.
There lay her father, bleeding profusely, and circling around him, was another man. She quickly realized that that man was a vampire. Her realization came too late as the vampire bit down into her fathers arm. "RUN HAZEL, GET OUT OF HERE!!!" Those words went unheard, as Hazel could no longer feel anything, she couldn't move even though her body was screaming at her to do something.
She watched as the vampire drained her father of every drop of blood, his skin now sickly pale and eyes bulging from his head. His still youthful face, looked aged, and faded. Crying out, Hazel realized that her father was now dead and that she was next.
After finishing with her father, the vampire stalked toward the shaking girl. However, he stopped for a moment, something flashing through his eyes and a twisted smile came across his face. "I think I'll allow you to live my dear." He placed a hand on Hazel's jaw, looking her over carefully.
"Why? You already killed my father, why leave me?"
"Because, I want you to suffer. The memory of me sinking my fangs into your father will haunt you for the rest of your life. I want you to search for me, and beg me to kill you, so you can be with him." He flashed another terrifying smile, and disappeared. Just then, a State Patrol officer pulled up, his lights flashing.
