I count everything while you're away
The scratches on my wall, the rips on the floor
the bruises on my skin, the waves at bay,
the whispers that you spoke, the knock on my door
I count everything while you're here
The thumping of my heart, the shift of your weight,
the weight of your gaze, your breaths that I hear,
the thoughts that I fear, your eyes that I hate
I count everything before I sleep
The words that you spoke, our distance apart
the stars that could fall, my tears that would slip,
the time I'm counting down, slowly back to one
I count everything as you walk away
The steps you take, the decisions you've made,
the girls you've seen while you were astray,
the number of hours it would take
before my eyes could finally rest,
And realize you took my very best
