I saw you after a year
I recognized your eyes and the way you laugh
You barely recognized my beaming smile
I talked about how life had been for me
And you nod reassuringly
I asked you how you've been
And not a familiarity crossed my mind
You were the same
But you were still completely different
I recognize the way you speak
But I had no clue what you meant
I recognize the weight of your gaze
And I had no clue how easy it wasI saw you after a year
I recognized the way you laugh
And you barely recognized the clarity in my mind
I talked about how life had been good to me
And I asked you the same questions
You asked me how I've been
And I realized how sure I was of my serenity
I'm not the same
Completely, utterly different
I even smile when I speak
And I had no clue how easy it was supposed to be
I let you walk me out for the last time
And I pray that life favors you the same way it did for me
