I loved you on a hot summer day with ice cream dripping, and strawberry jam on our lips. It was sleepless nights and late-night talks about stars, phantoms, and martyrs that are yet to happen.
The leaves changed and started to fall helplessly surrendering to gravity- this was when we fell apart. What a beautiful mess it all was, an explosion of colors scattered on the ground with hearts in pieces.
Cold nights greeted me on the holidays. Birthday cards were stacked and phone calls were ignored. But when winter lasted for months, I found solace with my pen, and I put a fire with what was left.
Spring came when I met the love of my life. I was introduced to singing birds, new-found paradise, and stories of eternal rebirth that are yet to come. I found peace with the promised tomorrow.
I hope you did, too.
