Ben had taken me to have breakfast the morning after he proposed, however considering what happened with Harry and the proposal I had no room for my appetite, so I sat with a half full plate in front of me.
Ben drinks from his coffee cup and sets it down. "Are you okay?" He says. "I feel like I always ask that, sorry."
"It's fine, I'm fine." I say waving him off, the glint of the diamond reflecting from the sun into my eye, catching my attention.
"You've been this way since last night, are you sure you want to—"
"I said I'm fine." I interrupt, not meaning for it to sound rude but I was annoyed at the fact that Harry went back to Kendall, just because I'm going to marry Ben.
He actually sat there and gave me our comfort drink and listened to me ramble on about how I didn't want to be with Ben, he listened to me almost confess that I wanted him instead, just while Kendall was in the same vicinity as us.
"I'm just trying to help, Kat." Ben says, sitting back making me feel bad. He doesn't deserve this, he doesn't deserve being with someone who doesn't want to be with him. He doesn't deserve me waisting his time, just because I'm being petty as well.
"Sorry, I'm just not feeling my best." I say, running my hands through my hair in desperation. Ben nods and sighs, signaling the waiter for the check.
"I want you to meet my parents." Ben suddenly says making me look up. "Well, my adoptive parents. Sorry, I never told you I was adopted but it's only because I've been debating wether or not I should have you meet them. They can be a bit...harsh."
"Sure," I nod. "When can they get here?" I ask and Ben bites the inside of his cheek.
"The thing is, you'd have to come with me to Colorado.." he says and I furrow my eyebrows. "It'll only be for a few days, I know you had a pretty shitty experience when you first visited America."
"It's not just that, I'm extremely fearful of heights." I admit, my skin rising in goosebumps just thinking about it. "I don't think that'll work. Why don't they just come? I'll clean up my place and they can take the guest bedroom and—"
"My parents are snobs, Kat." Ben cuts me off. "They are very judge mental, I can try to convince them but they'll have to take a hotel." He says and I nod.
"That's fine." I say and Ben offers me a small nervous smile.
"Maybe we can give them that tour, the same tour you gave me when we first met, it can be a date to relieve it." I mean, it's not like it's been so long but a couple of months.
After breakfast, Ben and I decide to go back to my apartment where he was on the phone with his parents for almost two hours. He was in the bathroom talking on the phone while I was sat on the couch with the TV muted since it was on a comercial break.
"...I'm just saying, please behave yourselves when you come. She's been through quite a lot in the last few months." I hear him say as I look down to my wine glass. "Don't ask personal questions either, just please. Don't be yourselves for the time you are here."
I hear him say his goodbyes before he homes back out of the bathroom. "All done, they'll be here next week," he says, sitting down next to me, putting his arm around me. "They can't wait to meet you."
"I doubt that." I say. If his parents are snobs, I don't think they'd approve me of marrying their son. I gave up a career in medicine for a minimum wage paying job in a small coffee shop. They'll probably see nothing but someone with no bright future ahead of herself.
"Babe, don't do that to yourself," Ben coos, kissing my temple. "They'll see how happy you make me, if they don't like that then that's on them. If you want, you can tell them you're still in the medical field if you feel the need to impress them, we'll only be seeing them one last time at the wedding and then that's it."
