No matter what I tried, it seemed like I couldn't turn my brain off. It was consumed with thoughts of Brian. I was determined to get to the diner the next morning and sit there until I saw him. I needed to talk to him. It was the only way to handle this. Sure, I could have left well enough alone and went on my merry way, but I knew if I left the town without speaking to him, it would bother me for the rest of my life.

I got dressed and threw my brown hair into a ponytail with a few wisps left out around my face. I wanted to look casual for when I "ran into Brian". I wondered if Beatrice had said anything to him about me. Had she told him I had been waiting for him like a dog waiting for its owner to return?

Before I headed over to the diner, I had check on my car. I was tired of not having a vehicle.

The morning sun once again had gone unnoticed as I walked over to the mechanic shop. I was just killing time at this point. I knew there was no way I could drive to New York and get to my interview by Monday morning. I had expected this. I was surprised to find that I almost felt relieved that I wasn't going. Would I have made a huge mistake?

"Hey Hannah. Looking for an update on your car?" Lucas said when I walked into the office of the mechanic shop. He set down the Car And Driver magazine he was holding on the counter.

"Yeah. Do you know anything about my car?" I asked.

"Let me get my uncle." He said and disappeared through the door behind the counter.

I glanced around the tiny area. It was painted a gloomy shade of grey and held three plastic black chairs against the wall behind me. A counter stood opposite of the chairs, behind it was a door with a window where you could see into the shop.

Nine-Toe-Joe came out about a minute later. "Hey, Hannah. Here about your car?" He asked.

I nodded my head. "Yeah, but I'm not really in a rush anymore."

"That's good." He said. "Because your car won't be done until at least Monday now.

My heart skipped a beat as I thought about it. I could be here through the weekend. Surely, Brian would be there at least once, right?

"Okay. Well, you know where I'm staying." I said. He told me he'd let me know as soon as he got it done. And I left the shop and headed over to the diner. My stomach turning as I walked.

Today could be the day I see Brian.

I thought about my mother, who I knew would have thrown a fit over everything. The shop my car was in, the hotel, the diner. She'd have been pissed to have to go through anything like this. I would have loved to see that. I knew I was going to have to face her at some point. I had to let her know that I wasn't going to make it to my interview. Part of me was terrified but I noticed that part was much, much smaller than before I left.

"Hey, hon!" Beatrice greeted me when I walked inside the diner.

"Hey. How are you?"

"I'm good. How are you? You're here early today." She said.

"I know. I really want to talk to him." I said knowing I sounded just a little crazy but also not caring at the same time.

"I'm not sure if he will be by or not. Or when." She said.

"I know. I figured I'll just sit here until he comes in. So please, lots of coffee." I said.

She laughed. "You got it."

Three hours. Three hours is how long I had to wait until I watched him walk into the little diner. He walked in and greeted his mom with a warm hug. I watched as she said something to him and he looked my direction, our eyes locking. There was a flash of something in his eyes and I couldn't read him. Was he pissed? Was he happy? Was he hurt all over again? Whatever it was, he did a good job not showing it on his face. He said something to his mom and then made his way over to the booth I was sitting in.
