Chapter seven

The moonlight poured through the trees, I sat on the roof of the gas station peering out into the town ahead
I fiddled with a knife in my hands and let out a long sigh
I felt a hand on my shoulder and I jumped up pinning whoever it was down holding the knife to their throat

"Woah, woah it's just me" Mark laughed lowly

I let out a breath sitting up so I was straddling his legs
I ran a hand through my hair, hitting him playfully

"You fucking asshole" I laughed getting up and stepping back

he stood up brushing himself off and pressing his hand to his chest where his cut was

"I didn't think you where gonna attack me" he laughed out

I sat back down on the edge of the roof patting the spot next to me, Mark swung his legs over the edge sitting down still holding his wound

"How does it feel?" I asked not taking my eyes off the sky

"It feels better, thanks to you" he smiled I looked at him and he looked at me, we stared into each others eyes for a bit

"Your such a sap" I said shaking my head a looking away, he scoffed leaning back

"You love me" he stated looking at me with warm eyes

"Whatever you need to tell yourself" I jokingly mumbled, there was silence after that as we both just sat there enjoying each others presence after a few minutes Mark broke the silence

"So you wanna tell me what your doing up here, by yourself, in the middle of the night?" He asked leaning forward so he could look at me

"I couldn't sleep" I stated plainly looking down to fidget with the knife in my hand

"Whats keeping you up?" He asked glancing down at the knife in my hand

Before I could answer loud footsteps and shrieks were heard somewhere behind us we both jumped up and saw three infected charging towards us, I looked at Mark as he pulled out a shiv from his back pocket staring determinedly at the infected in front of us

We both sprinted into the fight, I slid underneath one infected coming up and stabbing it from behind, Mark was fighting with one trying to get his shiv close enough to stab it but was failing, I was too busy paying attention to Mark I forgot about the fight but soon I felt arms around my neck and legs around my waist as one of the infected jumped on my back

I stumbled backwards fighting for my life, I didn't even think about the fact I was on a roof and before I knew it my foot touched the edge

"Ethan!" Mark yelled to me trying to push the infected off of himself

But it was to late,I lost my balance and fell back the infected falling of me as I braced myself, suddenly I felt a hand grasp my ankle and then another one grab higher up my leg, I opened my eyes and looked up to see Mark with a relived look on his face

"I got you, don't worry" he said warmly, a little out of breath still, I reached my hand up and he grasped it pulling me back up, as soon as I was on solid ground Mark pulled me into a hug
I froze for a second but soon returned the hug, enjoying it a lot more after my near death experience
He pulled away looking at me

"You alright?" He asked searching my features
"Any bites?" He added

I shook my head examining my very shaking arms Mark took notice of the shakiness and tilted his head

"What's wrong why are you shaking?" He asked his voice full of concern

"It always happens after a fight, I get super Shaky, it usually lasts an hour at most" I informed him
I could tell he wanted to do something but he didn't say any else instead he glanced around the surroundings before looking back at me

"Let's get some sleep huh?" He said walking backwards and holding his hands up at his side with a silly look on his face
I laughed

"Yea I guess you big doof"
