My eyes fluttered open and I sucked in a breath, holding it for a second before finally letting it out i felt Mark asleep next to me and a smile spread across my face, i looked around the woodland area

My vision was a little blurry from just waking up, i saw the blurry silhouette of a few people walking  but i wasn't completely to my senses yet so i just glanced away until the familiar squealing filled my ears and my eyes widened

"oh fuck!"

i jumped up, snatching the bat that was leaning against the tree next to me, i swung it at the infected but not nearly hard enough as the infected just wobbled to the side

i went to hit it again but i caught sight of how many infected there really were, hundreds of them seemed to file out of the trees

the infected in front of me took the advantage of my loss of concentration to grip onto my arm, i whipped my arm to the side throwing the monster to the ground before slamming the bat onto its head

"Mark! get up!"

i shouted to him before backing up and readying my bat to hit another infected, his eyes fluttered open before widening  once he spotted all the infected, he jumped up and snatched his gun from his pants waistband, showering the horde in bullets

"how the hell did they get around the ravine?"

he shouted from the other side of the horde

"i don't know!"

i soon lost sight of him from between the trees and the horde, the horde closed in on me so i turned and picked up my pace, the only thing i had was my bat and that wasn't gonna do much against a horde of infected

i ran through the trees as more infected popped out of the woods not giving me a break to think. The sound of gunshots grew more distant as i ran, my lungs burned as i continued to run my legs felt like they were about to give when a town fell into sight

Just ahead of me a small town stood, as I neared the town I caught sight of another horde of infected after taking a closer look I noticed Mark at the front of the horde also running into the town

"Mark!"

I shouted to him catching his attention, he turned to look at me and was about to answer when the sound of multiple gunshots rang out from the woods

Several trucks and people on horses spilled out of the woods, the familiar symbol lay on the side of the car I made eye contact with one of the women on a horse, she narrowed her eyes before calling out to her friends

"It's them! Don't let the infected get to them first!"

And with that more gunshots rang out, I saw a few bullets shoot into the ground in front of me as I ran for one of the buildings, losing all sight of Mark

A few infected followed me but they were being shot down quickly by the Scales, I wiggles the handle of one of the small buildings but it didn't budge, I stepped back and slammed my shoulder into the door feeling a sting pulse through my arm but stepping back before hitting the door again

It flew open and I rushed inside closing the door quickly and leaning against it, infected banged on the door aggressively and I looked around eagerly, a dresser sat a few feet away from the door

I slid down, holding the door still and outstretching my leg trying to wrap my foot around the leg of the dresser, I struggled for a moment before finally getting my foot around the dresser and using all my strength to pull it towards me

I stood up and pulled the dresser in front of the door making sure it held before stepping away and taking a breath, the sound of gunshots grew louder and soon enough bullets flew through the door
I dove down behind the dresser as more bullets made their way through the weak wood of the door

The sound of people yelling and bullets died down eventually and it was silent except for the occasional yell from the Scales asking if they found anything

A singular gunshot rang out and everything became silent until two of the Scales spoke

"What was that?"

"I got one of them"

I've been gone for so long but I have a good reason okay

I'm figuring school stuff out rn because we're gonna do some sort of online stuff and it's confusing but I'm gonna try to update more often so expect frequent chapters

Also if you think that I won't kill off a main character..........well good luck then
