Chapter thirty

The water splashed up and soaked into my pant leg as we both ran through the shallow stream, laughter was shared between the both of us

After I got a good distance away from Mark I began to climb the hill to the other side of the ravine, rocks tumbled down as I struggled to get up

Mark was following close behind, finally stepping on the right places I made it to the top

After glancing back down to see Mark also struggling to make it up I looked around the new area, I froze and a smile spread on my face at the sight

Little white flowers bloomed on the trees, most likely apple trees some also consisted of pastel pink flowers
The leaves on the trees were a mix of greens, oranges, and reds signaling fall would soon be here

I walked into the middle of the clearing, leaves fluttered down to the ground as a soft wind flowed through the area, after a quick look around I could find no infected present which made my smile grow wider

I heard Mark finally make it up the hill, I could tell he paused since I heard no leaves crunching

After a second the sound of leaves crunching behind me could be heard, a pair of arms snaked around my waist and pull me close

Mark rested his chin on my shoulder and swayed us slightly as we both admired the scene in front of us

"I didn't think there was still beauty in this world" I spoke up, hearing Mark scoff before speaking himself

"I'm fucking beautiful I don't know what your talking about"

I snorted at his words and turned around to face him, his still held onto me and a smile sat on his face
I wrapped my arms around his neck and admired his eyes

They swirled with many different colors and emotions, the dark brown seemed to clash with a lighter brown causing them to sparkle where the two colors met

I could read them pretty well, he seemed focused but I could tell worry lay right in the back of his mind almost overthrown by every other emotion though so I wasn't sure if it was there or not

His pupils seemed to grow as he leaned in, delicately pressing his lips onto mine

I returned the kiss, our lips moved in sync and he pulled me closer to him

I played with his hair on the back of his neck, we both smiled into the kiss trying to savor this moment, for we never knew when one like this would occur again

We pulled away because of the lack of air, my eyes fluttered open and Mark looked as though he was in heaven

A small laugh escaped my lips as he admired me, I pulled away from his hold and slipped my hand into his dragging him along

He followed me with no hesitance as we walked through the trees, we danced around a little bit sharing small laughs and smiles, the feeling that coursed through me in this situation was like one I've never felt before

It was pure bliss and butterflies, feeling his hand wrap perfectly around mine, the way his smile shone so brightly and the way he looked at me with deep adoration

And I knew how wrong I was all this time, thinking he didn't care about me or just wanted to control me when In reality he had as much adoration for me as I did him

We walked through the forest hand in hand the sound of leaves crunching and laughter surrounded us until the sun started to set

We set up under one of the larger trees, thunder cracked and lightning lit up the sky

Mark gathered stuff for a fire and I sat down against the tree, as soon as Mark got enough sticks and leaves for the fire small raindrops began to fall

"Fuck" Mark mumbled before rushing to tend the fire, hoping to get it going before rain started to fall but luck wasn't on our side as the rain started pouring down from the clouds

The rain didn't fall as hard underneath the tree so Mark joined me under it, he sighed as he sat down I grabbed on his hand holding it in my own and leaning my head against his shoulder

This would be a long night
