Sleep didn't come easy to me, every time I closed my eyes visions of Dakota flashed through my mind but every time I jumped from a nightmare Mark's arms tightened around me, bringing my thoughts back to him

Morning finally rolled around and I felt Mark shift around a bit, I wiggled out of his arms and climbed on top of him, straddling his waist and admiring him for a second before a devilish grin spread across my face and I grasped onto a pillow

It was time to finish what we started

I lifted up the pillow and brought it down quickly onto his face, he let out a groan and furrowed his eyebrows bringing his hands to rub his face

His eyes fluttered open but stay partially closed, I brought the pillow down again

"Get up get up get up" I repeated over an over again while hitting him with the pillow

"Stop" Mark grumbled blocking his face with his hands so I couldn't hit him in the face anymore, but I didn't stop

"No not until you get up"

"I'm up I'm up, Okay stop" he whined, I stopped hitting him with the pillow and put it on the bed

"Good, now can we go?" I asked like a little kid wanting to go to the park

He brought his hands up to rest on my hips, sliding them up slightly and under my shirt causing goosebumps to spread across my skin

"Let me talk to Avery first"

I frowned and hung my head down

"And then, hey, and then we'll go" he added rubbing circles on my hip with his thumb a smile returned to my face and I got off him and walked to the other bed

Flopping down on it and letting out a sigh, I heard Mark get up and the door open before closing again
I sat in silence for a few minutes before the door opened again

I looked up and Mark walked into the room closing the door behind him

"I talked to Avery, she said it was probably for the best we left anyways" I glanced down and back up to Mark

"Well let's get going then"

We both got up and started packing up our things it didn't take long for me since I already had my stuff packet the night before when I was going to leave
Memories and thoughts ran through my head of last night

What if I did leave last night?
Where would I be now?

I was pulled out of thought when Mark started rubbing my back

"You ready?" He questioned with a reassuring smile, I nodded and picked up my bag slinging it over my shoulder

Mark stood by my side as we walked down the hallway and out the doors, small sobs could be heard and I couldn't help but to look where it was coming from, Grey kneeled down by a pile of freshly dug dirt tears slipped out of her eyes

I could help but feel bad, I know how it feels to loose a close friend but if he would've just kept his mouth shut none of this would've happened, Marks hand on my back guiding me was the only thing keeping me going

Katelyn came up to me and gave me some information on what to do if my foot gets bad, she seemed sad and if she was upset at me she seemed pretty good at hiding it, she said her goodbyes and I was about to go to Mark who waited at the gate for me when someone called me name

"Ethan!" A broken voice yelled, I spun around to be met with Grey, tears ran down her face and anger filled her eyes

"You did this! It is your fault he's dead! Your a fucking monster!" Her words hit me like a truck, I froze unable to say or do anything while Mark and Katelyn stepped in

Mark turned around to look at me and grabbed my hand

"Let's go"

He began to pull me along but I had my attention focused on Grey still, the way she fought against Katelyn but then finally gave up and sobbed into her chest broke me

I walked with Mark to the gate where Avery stood, I struggled to hold eye contact with her

"I'm so sorry" was all I could come up with, sorrow filled her eyes from the loss of her second hand but she didn't show it

"It's okay, things happen he was always know to run his mouth and I knew it would bite him in the ass someday...just wish it wasn't that day" she added on more quietly but quickly brought a reassuring smile back to her face which made me feel a tiny bit better about The whole ordeal

"Thank you for taking care of us" Mark spoke this time taking a hold of Avery's hand and shaking it

"I'm happy to help, I wish you the best of luck" she spoke with a smile

Me and Mark nodded and walked out the gate hearing it close behind us, we walked through the town in silence but it wasn't uncomfortable

When we made it out of the town Mark spoke up

"So what's the plan? Do you still wanna go after the Scales?"

I nodded quickly to which he hummed in response

"I heard there main base is somewhere in the west, we take down there main base..the rest of them crumble" I explained having thought about this many times

"Okay....do you know how big the base is?"

"Nope But I don't care, I'll kill them all or I'll die trying"

Mark nodded his head, he gripped onto my hand as we walked west, hopeful yet scared of what was to come but we didn't care

We had each other and we knew that wherever one went so will the other

And I'm pretty sure that's what's gonna keep us going for today and hopefully many more to come

But we didn't think of the future we thought of the present and what we have and what we had was a friendship..but...more

And I like it that way
