Chapter 7..

I woke up with the skin on my wrist shinning a faint orange as if it were a dying coal. I winced in pain while trying to rub the sleep from my eyes so that my vision would clear up.

I got up and ran over to the kitchen sink, letting the water run freely off of my wrist. Steam filled the air from where the water met my skin. “Bitch!” I screamed, letting out a cry of pain through my gritted teeth. I got ice from the freezer and placed it on my wrist. It melted instantly and the peach colored light eliminating from my wrist shone brighter, with more intensity.

I stopped trying to cool it down, and the pain decreased – not by much. It still felt like someone had placed a nail inside a hot fire and waited for it to turn red and orange before puncturing my skin and dragging it along my writs repeatedly.

Something was pulling me towards outside.

Towards the woods.

At the time I couldn’t care. I ran, just to get my mind off this pain. The cool early morning breeze danced on my hot, sticky skin as I stepped outside. My legs fumbling uncontrollably until I fell down in the thick green grass.

I let out a groan of pain as the light on my wrist grew brighter, causing me to fall on my back.

I closed my eyes and begged for the pain to end, Staring up at the early morning sky I felt my body begin to shake.

I felt my legs and arms grow longer and stronger. I felt my ribcage snap casing me to wince. I felt a pelt of fur cover my body and my hands and feet turn into claws. My clothes streaming down like confetti around me.

I slowly rolled over onto my stomach and edged myself onto my feet.. all four of them. I took a long hard look at what used to be my hands as they imprinted in the grass.

White, pale fur with the slightest reflections of blonde where - what was remaining of the moon light - met my fur. I looked up to take in a full view of what I’ve now become, looking at a reflection - from the glass walls along the patio leading inside.

I stood up on all fours, my long white fur covered my whole body and my legs looked strong and powerful. I growled and my teeth began to show. My teeth were sharp and looked as if I could cut through any predator’s neck without hesitation.

Monster…

I took off, running as deep into the woods as possible. I had to get away from that monster.

If I was a monster, then why did this feel so good?

Why did it feel so good when my paws took in the earth underneath it, pushing it backwards and myself forwards as I flew through the air allowing the sweet smelling air to fill my lungs?

I found a river nearby, well I’ve never seen it before – so not so nearby – and I lay down on the bank of it. Placing my front paws into the water, I winced and pulled them away quickly as I remembered the way my wrist ignited once it touched water. But it didn’t? I slowly place my paws back in and there was nothing, nothing but the cool feeling of water running through my toes and the pads of my paw, soothing the heat I had created from running.

What am I..?

Was the last thing I remember passing through my mind before the darkness consumed me.

*******

It was dusk by the time I woke up, which means I had only been sleeping for a few hours. I rose to my feet as a cool breeze swept through the trees and made its way into my lungs.

I took a deep breath and decided there was nothing more I could do, and hopefully my parents would know what to do…

‘My parents!’ I thought. Shit. What if they got home and I wasn’t there? I was going to be in a crap load of trouble!

I headed back in the direction of my house and ran as fast as my legs could carry me, when I was a few yards away from the house I heard the car turn into the driveway. My hind legs stopped me from running further as the realization hit me.

I was a werewolf..

What if my parents didn’t love me after they saw me like this.. What if they just abandoned me? My hind legs started shaking and I forced myself forward. Even if they do.. I have to know what’s going on.

By the time I got to the back of the house I heard the front door slam. I paced back and worth taking slow strides and turning, flicking my tail in the air. “Hey sweetie, we’re home!” I heard my dad call out. “Sweetie?” he repeated, “Where is she?” he asked my mom. I could hear my mom and dad sniff the air.

‘Baby? Baby, where are you?’ , my mom’s voiced echoed in my head. I could hear her! But her lips weren’t moving..

‘Mom!’ I replied, my voice even sounded shocked to me, ‘Honey came back home and we’ll explain everything,’ my mom started, ‘We’re so sorry we weren’t here for you’.

So they knew, but why didn’t the tell me?

‘Mom, I’m in the woods, close to the backyard’

I watched as my mom’s stepped outside onto the porch holding one of my t-shirts and a pair of shorts. Her short, dark brown hair was styled and neat and extenuated her heart shaped face. Her lips were thin and covered in a red lipstick. She was beautiful.

I bowed my head and slowly started towards the house. ‘Mom,’ I whimpered, ‘don’t get a fright, okay?’ . “It’s alright darling,” she said aloud, “we understand.”

I walked into full view and my mom’s eyes widened, not in shock or fear – but in excitement.

“You’re.. You’re..” she started, ‘I know mom..’ I told her. “No, get dressed sweetie! This is so exciting!” she shrilled. ‘Mom, I don’t know how to change back..’ I added. “Well…” she said biting her lip “think of the calmest feeling you’ve ever felt. The feeling that can’t possibly ever be replaced by any other..” she said.

My mind filtered back to 2 nights ago, when Kamron had his lips pressed to my wrist. I closed my eyes and I slowly felt my figure getting smaller.

I fell to the ground, butt naked and shivering. My mom quickly ran to my side and passed me the clothes while I slowly slipped them on.

“Come inside honey.” My mom ordered, nodding her head towards the door and placing her arm around my shoulder. “Your dad and I have a lot of explaining to do.”
