I woke up later that afternoon, around 2. I quickly showered and hummed in satisfaction as the luke warm water hit my skin.
I got out and ran a towel through my hair and wrapped it around my head while I got dressed. I slipped on some underwear and a pair of long black skinny jeans - if we were having a meeting tonight, I'd at least have to look presentable as Alpha. I put on a tight, white shirt and a lose gold shirt, covered in sequence, over it. I walked over to my cupboard and went down onto my haunches. Which shoes to wear?
High heels - I'll look older and somewhat 'hoe'-ish. Nope.
Sneakers – Childish and immature. Nope.
Pumps - Classy. Perfect.
I picked up my pumps, and straightened my stance. Slipping my feet into them, I heard a knock on my door. "Come in," I called out. "Hey Sweetie," my mom said as she walked in and closed the door behind her. "Oh, hey mom. What's up?” she sat down on the bed next to me and I could sense she was tense. "You're dad has made the meeting for 5:30pm, alright?" She informed me. "Okay mom, are you okay?" I asked, my voice trembling as it left my mouth.
"Yes," she allowed a half-hearted smile to make its way to her lips. My mom never lied to me before, but somehow I knew something was wrong. "Now hurry up, and come downstairs to get something to eat. I've made waffles and they're going to waste."
By the time my mom said waffles, I was half way down the stairs screaming "Wwwwaaaaaaffffffeeeeeelllllssssss!" so loudly that it echoed through the house for what felt like 2 minutes. I heard my dad laugh from behind the kitchen door. I walked in to find him standing over the stack of gloriously, golden, delicious, crunchy, heaven filled waffles with his arms around them protectively.
"Mine.." He slurred, looking me straight in the eyes.
"You're a dead man," I threatened, returning the stare. No-one, and I mean no-one, was going to come between me and those waffles.
My dad took off with the waffles, and headed down the hall to the living room.
Mistake Number 1..
I was there in record time. I leaped over the couch and latched onto his back. "Mine!" I yelled as my arms extended reaching towards the outstretched waffles. Darn this evil man. My dad laughed as my attempts at getting ahold of the waffles failed, "Never!" his loud voice commanded.
I swung myself to his side, and my feet hit the ground. I grabbed the waffles and ran like I was on fire. "You're too slow old man!" I screamed while running down the corridors and flying into a room.
By the time my dad got to the downstairs guest bedroom, I had scoffed down one waffle and I was well on my way to starting my second one. "Get away!" my voice sounding like a gremlin's. My dad laughed and helped me to my feet, "Let's pretend to be normal for 2 seconds," his deep voice was calm and filled with humor. "Awww...” I moaned, crossing my arms across my chest and storming out as if to throw a tantrum. I could hear a low rumble of laughter escape from the room as I walked back to the kitchen holding the plate of waffles.
After inhaling five waffles, I pushed the plate towards my dad who was happily taking his seventh waffle and placing it onto his plate. Normally, I could only finish one, but I guess after all the running last night I was pretty hungry.
It was 5pm on the dot, and my dad had just finished cleaning up the kitchen. "Dad, what's going to happen tonight? “I asked nervously.
"Well, I'm going to explain everything to you and your friends and if any of you have questions I'll answer them to the best of my ability." He said firmly.
"Okay daddy. Thank you." I said, getting up from the table where I was seated and walking over to him. I placed a kiss on his cheek and disappeared out the kitchen door.
*******
Everyone was here, even Macy and her parents. I don't think she's even phased yet, but it’s better that she knows.
Mr and Mrs Krawford were seated on the long couch on the furthest side of the living room with Taylor leaning against the arm rest on the right hand side with his arms folded over his chest. He looked quite pissed off.
Mr and Mrs Bennet were seated on the long couch opposite Mr and Mrs Krawford. Macy was sitting at her father’s feet, with her legs crossed and her hands were placed calmly in her lap. She looked so innocent... it killed me to think that that was going to change in a few minutes..
Mrs Rhodes was seated on the smaller couch that was at the other end of the coffee table. Mr Rhodes leaned against the arm rest, his elbows placed on his knees and his fingers tangled together. He bowed his head in thought. Tiffany was at Taylor's side with her right hand's fingers tangled with his left hands that were tucked under his arm.
My mom was standing next to the couch on the far side of the room where the Krawford's were seated. Her arms were folded across her chest in apprehension.
I was seated on the kitchen counter that looked out into the living room. My legs were dangling off the counter and crossed at my ankles. My hands were at my sides, balancing me on the edges of the counter. I had exchanged 'hello' glances with Macy, Taylor and Tiffany when they walked in. They all sensed the seriousness of the situation and continued to their seats. I hung my head in pity for my fellow pack members.
My dad walked in and stood in front of me, I could still see everyone though. "Good evening," his voice breaking the silence that lingered in the room. Mr Rhodes head tilted up as my father spoke. They all sat up straight as he continued, showing full respect.
"I called you all here because of recent events," he trailed off and I could feel the eyes of every person in the room bore into my skull.
I slowly looked up to find my dad and the room full of people staring at me, "Care to do the honors as Alpha?" my dad gestured with his hands towards my audience.
I watched as every parent's, Tiffany's and Taylor's eyes widened in awe. I look at my dad and gave him a 'what the hell' look. "Well, go on then." He said sternly, causing, me to drop to my feet and instinctively take his place where he stood a few moments ago.
I took a deep breath and turned to face my doom.
