They groaned as they loaded the food containers into the trunk. It was a little laborious with the girl and the little boy. Sweat begun to wet their foreheads as they load the last few boxes. The trunk was almost full and they doubt the beast-like-car will have a hard time carrying all these.Jonah weakly smiled at Venus as he panted. The boy was beyond happy to travel with his new parents and even packed some toys. Venus patted his head and praised him for helping out so much.
"Oh! I forgot something"
Jonah put his backpack into the backseat before jogging back to grab his last item. Venus watched the boy with adoration and a wide smile. If this is how it feels to have a child? She would be glad to have a twin. As her eyes fixed on the boy, the house's door swung open, revealing a panicked Jimin.
In the midst of staring at Jimin in confusion, Venus was completely blind of her back where a figure was running towards her. Both Jimin and Venus just stared at each other, one in sheer panic and another in absolute puzzlement.
Jonah turned around to see Venus but his eyes went wide when he caught the running figure. His youthful instinct made him bolt towards the figure and before anyone could react, he tackled it down with a loud thud.
Venus and Jimin snapped towards the boy on the ground and there they found the escaped zombie under Jonah as it barked at the boy like a hungry wolf. The past days of its starving caused it to be even more aggressive.
Jimin raised his gun and opened fire but the zombie rolled around and pinned Jonah to the ground, missing Jimin's bullet. A blood-curdling scream pierced through the air like a spear and cut through Venus' heart. Her body moved on it's own again, making her pulled a machete out from the trunk and sliced the zombie's head off its neck.
"JONAH!"
Venus cried out. At this point, who one gave a shit about their alarming gunshots or screams as they watched the boy shivered on the ground. Venus kneeled down and cradled the boy in her arms. As she arms circled around him, she felt a warm liquid on her hand. She glanced down and saw Jonah's bleeding neck with teeth marks.
Her breathing became uneven as tears flowed down her cheeks like rivers. Her arms trembled and struggled to hold the little boy tightly. Colors begun to drain from his face and lips turned purple. His eyes were fading into a color of grey and ash blue, clouding his vision.
Jimin rushed towards the scene and his once cold heart dropped at the sight of Jonah's body. He watched as the boy hiccuped with bubbles of blood and twitching body. He was turning and in no time he's going to be fully infected.
With great strength, Jimin tore Venus away from the boy, letting his lifeless body fell out of her embrace. She cried loudly and tried to push Jimin away and the man caged her in with his strong arms.
In sheer reluctance, Jimin raised his gun and aimed at Jonah, making Venus cried louder. This shouldn't be difficult for him. This shouldn't be hesitant. He should be able to pull the trigger right away but he couldn't, not when the boy they spent just a few hours with was on the ground twitching. In such a short time, he developed some kind of bond with this innocent soul and thanks to Venus, it took all his will to curl his fingers around the trigger and pull it.
Jimin mouthed a I'm so sorry to Jonah but before he shot the boy, Jonah stretched the last smile before whispering.
I love you
The gunshot echoed through the vacant road and silence followed it. Even the girl in his arms stopped moved. He let out a breath as he stared at the dead boy with a hole in his head that gushed with blood. His heart sank at the sight with great guilt and pity. Maybe he's not the heartless psychopath everyone thinks he is...
