If I had the chance to speak
I would like to thank you for giving me the love I seek
For giving me the attention I need
Whenever you see my paws bleed
I know sometimes, I can be a bother
Running around and eating my own collar
I even pooped near your favorite tree
Still, you did not fail to love me
I'm sorry for the holes in your shirt
And for all the footprints full of dirt
I just wanted your attention
Because whenever we play, I feel like we're in another dimension
I watched you fall in love
'til you let the dove fly above
I guarded your little girl at night
Like how the princess was protected by the knight
But I have seen the world for fifteen years
And I can see you hiding your tears
I'm getting old, I'm already tired
And rest is what I have desired
You played with me one last time
Throwing my ball full of grime
Tomorrow, I'll be gone
It will take a while but you'll move on
Thank you for welcoming me when I came
For taking care of me and giving me a name
Wait for me 'til I'm reborn
We'll meet again just like how we've sworn
A/N: I wrote this poem 3 years ago after my dog died.
At first, I wasn't able to grieve because I was more relieved that he finally got to rest so I couldn't bring myself to be sad when my dog finally got the rest he's been dreaming of but, when I watched the movie "A Dog's Purpose", I suddenly remembered the first day I got him. I was inspired to write this piece. However, I cried after finishing it.
I guess this was how I was able to grieve. It took time for me to processed Sky's(my dog's name) death, which is why I didn't grieve at that time, but I know I'll always have him near my heart.
Some of you may be able to relate with my experience, and through this piece, I hope you'll be comforted by the fact that they have found a wonderful place to play and run on endless fields. Who knows? Maybe one day, they might find their way towards you again.
