SAM'S P.O.V.

Ricky, Connor, Trevor, Kian, and I were still sitting in the waiting room, doing absolutely nothing. Time seemed to be moving slower than usual as we waited to hear the results.

Around two in the morning a doctor popped his head through the doorway. "Kyndell Wright?" We stood up and walked to him. "Are you family?" He eyed us suspiciously.

"She lives with us." Kian said and we all nodded.

"Very well," the doctor motioned for us to follow him. As we walked he started filling us in on what had happened. "You see, the bullet didn't really hit anything. The only real reason for alarm was blood loss. We immediately went into surgery to get the bullet out and succeeded. She will need a few transfusions throughout the day so if any of you have the same blood type as her, you can donate."

"What blood type does she have?" Kian asked.

"B negative." Crap, not me.

"I have the same type." Connor told the doctor as we stopped outside room 437.

He nodded and opened the door, "You can go down to the donation room around five and they'll take care of it."

I walked into the room and froze. There she was, laying on a white hospital bed. Tears starting pricking at my eyes. She looked dead.

"Is she going to wake up?" I asked, staring at her still body.

"Yes, she'll probably be up sometime later this afternoon. If no one is here when she wakes up then press the button beside the bed. I'll check in on her later." He turned around and walked out the door.

I stumbled forward and crouched beside the bed. "God, Kyndell." I breathed, burying my head into the sheets.

"We're going to go see the baby," Ricky said, "I'll send you pictures." They left without another word, leaving me alone with Kyndell.

I raised my hand to her face. She had no reaction to my touch. A wave of pain ripped through my chest. Why wasn't I there to save her? How could I have been stupid enough to not see where this was going? I basically let the girl of my dreams walk to her doom without as much as a second glance.

I gently grabbed her hand and held it in mine. Her hands were beautiful, just like everything else about her. I started rubbing her knuckles slowly. Usually this would calm her down. A drop landed on her wrist and rolled onto the bed.

God, why?

My body started convulsing with quiet sobs. I silently broke down, clutching her hand to me like I needed it to survive. In a way I did. I needed Kyndell like I needed oxygen. Without her my life would be over. More tears rolled down my cheeks.

The door opened, but I didn't bother seeing who it was. Someone walked over and joined me beside the bed.

"It's going to be okay Sam." Jc put a hand on my shoulder, "She's going to be okay."

"I know she will."

"Then why are you upset?"

"I wasn't there."

Neither of us said anything for a while. I guess he understood.

"Things are going to happen, Sam. It's inevitable." He tried reasoning.

"Not if I have anything to say about it." I mumbled, wiping my eyes.

Jc sighed, "Think on the bright side, she'll be awake in a couple hours."

A smile formed on my face, "Yeah." Relief started to spread through my body. I knew she was going to be fine, but I needed to see her eyes for confirmation. Jc patted Kyndell's head and left.

Well, I might as well make myself comfortable. I grabbed a chair and drug it beside Kyndell. This was going to be a long night.

KYNDELL'S P.O.V.

I was laying in grass. My body was numb, but I somehow managed to pull myself up. I turned around in a circle and once my eyes adjusted, I gasped.

This was my house. My house before everything fell apart. I crept up to the window and peeked inside.

A Christmas tree stood beside the television set, stockings crowded the mantle place, and my family sat scattered around the fire. My mom, dad, and brother were all in that room. I hadn't seen any of them in two years.

My mom and brother were laughing about something while I sat on my dad's lap. I was pouting about something, while my dad tried to cheer me up. Eventually a smile broke out on my face and I giggled.

I found myself smiling at the memory. Suddenly the interior changed, my brother and I disappeared. My parents were screaming at each other, but I couldn't tell what they were saying. It hurt to re-watch this horrible night. My father finally snapped and started beating my mom. I closed my eyes. I really didn't want to watch this, I knew how it ended.

When I opened my eyes, my mom was gone. The past version of myself sat on the sofa, crying my eyes out. My brother walked in and sat down beside me. He cried with me, not even trying to hide it. Our mom was gone. I can still remember what that felt like.

The scene changed one last time. It showed a white room. A hospital room. I took a closer look and realized Sam was sitting beside the bed, crying. My heart hurt for him. I tried to see who was lying in the bed, but I couldn't tell.

A hand touched my shoulder and I squealed. I turned around and saw my mom looking down at me. "M-mom?" She smiled and nodded. "Mom I missed you so much!" I threw my arms around her and started laughing.

"I missed you too, Kyndell." She smiled and returned the hug.

"I can't believe you're here! What's going on?"

"You have been in an accident Kyndell, right now you are stuck in your head."

"You mean, you're not real?"

"No, I'm just a figment of your imagination."

My face fell. Well, at least I can pretend I'm talking to my mom. "Things have been hard mom."

"I know they have, but think of the good things that have come out of this."

"Like what?"

"For starters, you just brought down Neal and released all of those girls," Oh yeah, that's how I got hurt. "You've helped a bunch of people through some extremely hard times. You've made amazing friends and you found you're soulmate." I guess my life didn't completely suck.

"Thanks mom." She smiled and nodded.

"Speaking of your soulmate, he's been waiting for you."

"I miss you mom."

"I miss you too baby."

"Bye."

And with that, everything went black. My entire body was burning with an intense ache. Oh shit, this hurt. Now I was rethinking the whole 'let's be a hero' thing.

A drop of wetness dripped onto my arm. I knew who was beside me. Now all I had left to do was open my eyes.
