Chapter 3: New Friends

The day started off great, and continued to be great! Peter waited for me outside 2nd period which I didn't have with him, but I managed on my own thankfully. After 3rd period, my dad texted me to check in.

IronDad: Hey Hon? How's the first day going? <3

Trying to text in a busy hallway was difficult, but I managed.

Me: It's going great dad! I got to get to lunch, but I'll tell you more about it later

IronDad: Staying safe?

Me: Always :)

IronDad: That's my girl :) Now stop texting me before you get detention

Me: It's lunchtime!

"Woah!" Peter said pushing me to the side gentility as I barely avoided a student running.

"Please tell me you don't have a license," he said and I shook my head.

"Nope. But I'm sure you can tell I would be such a great, non distracted driver," I joked, as we made it to the cafeteria. I felt really weird following Peter around like a lost puppy, but he didn't seem to mind.

How lucky was I to already maybe possibly made a friend?

Peter and I walked up to a mostly empty lunch table, with only Ned and MJ there, talking about Star Wars. We sat down and joined them.

"So, Y/N, where are you from?" Ned asked.

"Oh, um, I'm from, uh, Washington. State. Yeah. But my dad got a job at... uh Stark industries as a tech designer, so we moved out here." I lied. I was pretty good at making stuff up on the spot.

"Oh that's cool! Peter has an internship at Stark Industries!" Ned exclaimed. My head perked up and I turned to Peter.

"Really?!" I asked. I immediately regretted my fake story. What if Peter saw me there?!

"Yeah, yeah, I'm just uh, not really allowed to talk about it that much," he said, looking down at his food.

"He's even met Tony Stark! And Spider-Man!" Ned bragged. Peter shot him a look.

This information peaked my interest.

"Peter and I talked about him meeting the Spider-Man, but I had no idea about you knowing THE Tony Stark," I said, turning my full attention to Peter.

"Well again, I'm not allowed to talk about it," he said, glaring at Ned. MJ smirked from her book.

"I read about Spiderman when we first moved here, but haven't seen him yet," I admitted.

"Yeah well, he's pretty cool I guess. He can even lift up a car with his bear hands!" Peter told me. He seemed excited about the topic.

"He actually saved Ned once, when we went on a trip to Washington D.C., when the elevator broke in the Washington monument," MJ told me.

What?

"Wow! That's amazing!" I exclaimed, looking at Ned.

"Yeah, I almost died," Ned said, smiling. We all exchanged concerned looks.

Lunch soon ended, and I finished up the rest of my classes. Finally, it was the end of the day. I headed out the door to see Peter standing out there once again waiting.

"You know you don't HAVE to wait for me if you don't want to," I told him as we started walking towards his locker.

"Oh. Yeah I-I know. Just uh, didn't want you to feel scared on your first day," he said. I smiled to myself.

"Yeah you really did help me a lot today, thank you," I told him genuinely.

"I'm just glad I could help. You seem like an actual cool person. But not like, mean cool. Like, nerdy cool. Like me and Ned and MJ," he said. That comment made me feel very happy.

Happy. Oh shit. He was waiting for me in the car. Peter noticed my sudden drop in my facial expression.

"Oh I'm sorry! I didn't mean nerdy as a bad thing! Nerdy is a good thing! I'm a total nerd. In a good way..." he ranted on.

"No, it's not that. I forgot I was getting picked up!" I told him.

"Oh! Yeah you better get...uh...going then," he responded.

"Thank you, again. See ya," I said before turning around and speed-walking towards the front doors.

"Hey Happy!" I said as I finally found the car.

"Hey kid! You didn't die!" he half-exclaimed.

"I didn't! It was, actually really great. All my classes are pretty cool, oh and I made friends!"

"Well that's great! I told you you would be fine," he said, and started the car.

I'm glad he was right.

I pulled out my phone and texted Peter (we exchanged numbers at lunch).

Me: Hi Peter! It's Y/N :)

I waited a few seconds, and he responded.

Unknown: Hey! What are u up to?

I changed Peter's name in my phone to Peter (I would use a more creative name, but I just met him).

Me: Just going home to do homework for hours. Idk how I'm gonna catch up but oh well. What about u?

Peter: Oh, I have some extra curricular activities

Me: Ooh interesting! Well, I won't keep ya from them

Peter: TTYL :)

The elevators opened to the living room, but no one was there. Pretty typical.

I walked around to the kitchen, hallway, fitness room, etc. and sure enough no one was home. I assumed they must be on a mission. It was still somewhat early in the day, so I decided this was a good time to go out and explore the city a bit.

I texted my dad as a heads up that I was leaving for a bit, and that I would be back in an hour or two. I dropped off my backpack in my room, grabbed a smaller bag with some money (just in case), and headed back out the door.

I had never left the tower to just stroll around. The only times I ever left the tower was by car or helicopter. So, I wasn't very familiar with the streets. But, I was on such a high streak that I wanted to walk around the streets for a while, then eventually, use a GPS to get back home or something.

It was a little scary to walk the streets of New York alone. But, I liked it. It felt like no one was bothered by me. I was invisible. After 40 minutes, it started to rain a bit so I took cover in a nearby deli-mart called Delmar's. I walked around the isles to try and stall for the rain to pass, but it didn't seem like it would anytime soon. I knew I would need to get home soon, so I walked outside to head home.

I forgot I needed to use my GPS to get home, so instead of going back into the deli, I went into a alleyway so I could have a bit of shelter from the rain temporarily.

I leaned over my phone and opened the GPS app, when I heard the click of a gun to the right of my head.
