Lando rubbed his eyes as he pulled up outside the Perry household in Surrey. Located only a short distance from the McLaren Technology Centre and Lando's shared flat with Sacha, it didn't take him long to arrive. His flight from Milan arrived at Heathrow late last night, therefore, he was exhausted, considering it was currently seven thirty A.M. and Mila had absolutely no idea that her best friend planned to show up unexpected. She thought he was still in Italy, but Lando always planned to leave after the race. Today was special, for him and his entire family. He wanted to share the news with Mila before the whole world found out.

He'd organised his early visit with Mandy and Mark, not wanting to show up totally unannounced, but they were both working from home, meaning they would be around and up early enough to let Lando inside. He sat in the front seat of his car, heart pounding and fingers trembling, as he thought about how he would tell Mila that he was officially driving for McLaren-Renault in twenty nineteen alongside Carlos Sainz. He signed the contract with only his father knowing, promising that he wouldn't tell anyone, not even Mila, until the day of the official release. Lando was so overwhelmed and he couldn't wait to see Mila's reaction when he finally told her his news. She knew that this was his dream and finally reaching that milestone in his life felt amazing. He wanted to share the excitement with her.

Rushing towards the front door, Lando exhaled and shoved his hands into the pockets of his black joggers. He hoped Mila was awake, not knowing how much longer he could keep his lips sealed for. Plus, the official announcement from McLaren would go live on their social media pages at midday. Lando wanted Mila to know long before that. He had plans to arrive at his parents' house before the announcement was posted by McLaren so he could see his mum's reaction, meaning they would have to leave at nine at the latest to ensure they were on time. His heart was racing.

Mandy greeted Lando with a warm hug, before Mark appeared from the kitchen and shook his hand, the same way he'd greeted him ever since Lando turned fifteen. As parents, they knew that Mila was so lucky to have someone like Lando in her life. They truly believed that their daughter's survival was down to Lando's presence to some extent, because he made her happy and he spent every day of his life doing exactly that.

"She's upstairs," Mandy smiled, standing at the bottom of the stairs as she looked at Lando, because although she was expecting him, she still felt rather confused, yet delighted that he was here. Of course, neither her or Mark knew why he was here just yet. He couldn't tell them before he told Mila. "I'm sure she's awake. I heard footsteps coming from her room a few minutes ago."

"Thank you." Lando nodded politely before slipping past Mila's loving mum and heading upstairs. He was so nervous; not because he was scared for her reaction, but because this was their dream. He wanted Mila to be just as happy as he was. For as long as he could remember, Mila made it adamantly clear that she wanted to accompany Lando throughout everything. He clasped his hands together, his palms rather sweaty as he stood outside of Mila's bedroom. Knocking on the door, he waited patiently for her to respond.

"Come in!" She sounded ever so cheery for seven thirty in the morning. Mila had no reason to be up so early today, because she wasn't needed for anything until midweek at the MTC. However, her body clock was so used to early starts and early nights, meaning it was something she stuck to as well as she could. Most of the time, she woke naturally in the mornings. When she was younger, Mila would always be quite grumpy after waking up; both her and Lando were pleased that was something she'd grown out of.
