"Final race of the season," Mila smiled as she approached Lando, ruffling his hair when she reached his side. "Are you excited?"

It was confirmed that Lando was runner up to George Russell in the twenty eighteen Formula Two World Championship, but Mila was still so excited for today. She'd joined him in Abu Dhabi, on behalf of McLaren, with today being the last race of her internship. It felt rather bittersweet; she'd loved every second working and travelling with such an amazing team and didn't want to leave just yet. If a job role came up, she would apply for it with no questions asked. Knowing that Lando would be driving for McLaren next season only spurred her on even more. She still wasn't over her best friend's great news.

"I can't wait, but it does feel rather bittersweet." Lando sighed as he zipped up his race suit, chewing on his lip. There was a feeling of sadness lingering in the air of the Carlin garage today. Lando had been with this team for a while now and leaving them to move to McLaren was a great milestone. Mila was so pleased to be here with him, even though she had duties to fulfil with Stoffel at McLaren. She needed to head back to McLaren as soon as Lando climbed into the car, giving them around five more minutes together.

"McLaren next year, though? It's going to be amazing." The smile on Mila's face grew as she thought about her best friend finally driving in Formula One, for real. After all of the conversations they shared whilst growing up, talking about how he wanted nothing more than to be successful in his career, Lando had finally reached the point he'd always dreamed of. She was so proud of him. She couldn't remember a time where she felt so much joy for one person. Lando meant everything to Mila and she was so happy to have been by his side through his entire journey so far.

"I can't wait." Lando's cheeks flushed red before Jon appeared in the doorway of the room Lando and Mila were occupying. Lando finished his warm up session ten minutes ago, but Mila knew that when Jon appeared, it meant that he was needed in the garage. She still couldn't believe that next year, Lando would be in a new garage, with a new car and new people. The possibilities in Formula One were endless. Mila knew that Lando's talent would take him far in the sport.

"Lando, we best head out now." Jon reached for Lando's helmet and tucked it beneath his arm. Mila took Lando's hand between hers as he looked at her with soft eyes. Right now, it felt like he was locked up in a dream, a good one of course, and to some extent, he didn't want it to end. He was so happy to be in this position, with good people around him.

"You'll be great. I'll be watching from your new garage," Mila wiggled her eyebrows as Lando stood up and bundled her into his arms. Her hands clasped together after wrapping around Lando's waist and she could feel her heart pounding with anticipation and excitement ahead of the race. "Just be safe."

"I'll be fine, Milly," Lando pressed a sweet kiss to Mila's forehead and she savoured the sensation which rippled through her veins. Whilst holding tightly onto Lando's waist, Mila tilted her head backwards so that she could comfortably look into his eyes. She loved Lando so much. She didn't dare to imagine a world without her best friend in it. "I'll come straight back to you after the race. I love you, as friends."

"I love you more, as friends." Mila giggled to herself as Lando pulled her in for one final hug, his biceps tensing around Mila's small body. She enjoyed his grip for a few seconds, before he really had to pull away and head out into the paddock. After going their separate ways, Mila made the short trip back into the Formula One paddock and towards the McLaren hospitality building, when she was stopped by Zak.
